First off - I congratulate the bass player for his choice in bass. Is there anything better then an active 5 string Jazz with 24 frets?!
There are some minor timing issues and a few off notes from the keyboard player (I think, you could be aiming for those outside tones). My main concern is the drum sound, I don't think its beefy enough. I sort of enters the mix, then gets washed away. I can still hear it for sure but I can't feel it.
There is a good sense of space, its rarely everyone playing everything at the same time - and when it is, its never overwhelming, which is great.
The songs are good, the arrangements work really well. They are not so poppy as to have no soul, but they are no obscure enough to fall into a niche market. There is a decent level of musicianship, so its not boring to listen to. There is a good mix between laying around songs and getting up and dancing songs.
The bass sounds great - Just wanted to slip that in there. A nice mix between light and punchy and deep and booming.
Some variety in songs would be good, unfortunately this is hard to do. Finding the balance between staying true to your style and not being to repetitive. I do think you have done a better job then most however.
Overall it is a pretty tasty record! I wouldn't expect it to be perfect, unless you have a lot of money then its hard to get something 100%, I'm also aware that the band itself may not be responsible for the mixing (I know we weren't and I wish we were...). For a small local band it turned out really good, I would be proud of that and you totally have another fan!
Nice work =D
