Alright Escapist community, I need some feeback. Our band just recorded a live CD of ourselves and we need your opinions on changes, volume adjustments, new ideas, etc. Do you guys like it? Do you hate it? Does it rock or does it hurt your ears?

Check it out: www.myspace.com/50fiftytheband

Any feedback definitely appreciated. Thanks.

PS: Name of the band is 50Fifty

1: It's pretty good. Not really my taste in music.

2: I think this is considered advertising, which is against the rules. Not sure.

I'm not really into the style of music so I can't really offer a fair opinion of it.

Not bad. Like most others it's not quite what I'm into, but you guys seem talented enough. I listened to Point of View v2 and it sounds like it would fit nicely into the soundtrack of a romantic comedy. Possibly starring Sandra Bullock.
Interestingly enough (we all go to The Ohio State University), and we've had a couple film students use B.P.O.V. in one of their "love" story comedies lol. Good call.

Quite repetitive, really.
The singer needs to work on pitches, articulation, enunciation, and breathing.

The pianist needs to go listen to Wynton Kelly.
Today.

The drummer... needs help...

The guitarist... is a guitarist...

First off - I congratulate the bass player for his choice in bass. Is there anything better then an active 5 string Jazz with 24 frets?!

There are some minor timing issues and a few off notes from the keyboard player (I think, you could be aiming for those outside tones). My main concern is the drum sound, I don't think its beefy enough. I sort of enters the mix, then gets washed away. I can still hear it for sure but I can't feel it.

There is a good sense of space, its rarely everyone playing everything at the same time - and when it is, its never overwhelming, which is great.

The songs are good, the arrangements work really well. They are not so poppy as to have no soul, but they are no obscure enough to fall into a niche market. There is a decent level of musicianship, so its not boring to listen to. There is a good mix between laying around songs and getting up and dancing songs.

The bass sounds great - Just wanted to slip that in there. A nice mix between light and punchy and deep and booming.

Some variety in songs would be good, unfortunately this is hard to do. Finding the balance between staying true to your style and not being to repetitive. I do think you have done a better job then most however.

Overall it is a pretty tasty record! I wouldn't expect it to be perfect, unless you have a lot of money then its hard to get something 100%, I'm also aware that the band itself may not be responsible for the mixing (I know we weren't and I wish we were...). For a small local band it turned out really good, I would be proud of that and you totally have another fan!

Nice work =D

Zen5887, I really appreciate the comments man. You play bass? lol you in a band? You sure seem to have a decent amount of knowledge amount bands. Yeah it's a live take so we all had you know, one take and there are definitely some mistakes.

We try to mix things up but like you said, we try and stay in our style. We've got certain people composing (ie keyboardist and drummer) while our guitarist just adds his flair.

It's great that the Escapist has people who listen to good music and not just the modern crap they put out (Though there are a lot of REALLY good indie bands these days).

For anyone that's interested, check out a band named

"Trampled Underfoot" (Any band named after a Zeppelin song should be worthy of a glance)

"California Guitar Trio" (If I could play guitar like them, the world would implode)

Yeah, we had a local guy do it. He's a budding audio engineer and put over 40 hours into it. We could only paid him $100... but he did such an amazing job with what equipment he had

The Keyboardist needs to lose the polo. Also I'm not a big fan of the drums. They're okay, but not really interesting.

Other than that its pretty good.

I'm liking "Home"

the music and instrumentation is well done, but i'm not a fan of the voice. to my ear he's slightly off key from time to time. looking at the lineup everyone who sings also plays another instrument, so if you wanted a new singer you wouldn't have to fire anyone. just my thoughts

It's good, but I do have some problems. On some tracks the balance of sound is off, like the piano is way to loud and it drowns out every thing else including the singer which is never good. Also the drummer is a bit off and could use some more practice (Coming from another drummer), I don't know if it is just skill level or if you guys weren't in sync. Also another thing about the drums, they are extremely quiet. I can barely hear the crash and snare. I just can't feel it if you know what I am saying. But over all it is very good, just need to touch it up a bit.
