OT: While I don't want to seem like a broken record, out of curiosity I did flick through Justin Bieber's book while in Waterstones and it was horrible. I wrote better shit when I was in Year 7.

The last book in David Eddings' The Dreamers series. Now don't get me wrong, I love David Eddings writing, but the way the book ends the series is complete bullshit.

The first three books in the series where good, solid Eddings books. They had everything that a one of his books would normally have. Yet in the fourth book, after building tension for most of the series about the epic final battle and then, wait for it, they solve the problem by going back in time and killing the villan before it beacame dangerous. He wasted three and a half goddamned books.

Frigging.... argh. Angela's Ashes and The Grapes of Wrath are in a tie for my worst read, and I read a lot of those $1 books you find at the grocery store.

What was up with Angela's Ashes? My father read it and won't stop trying to get me to read it.

regarding King: the man wrote so many books, some of them just have to be crap and i know a lot of people who just randomly grabbed one or two and were disappointed.

Book? Pfeh. The entire Hope series by David Feintuch. Short version: Guy is raised by a crappy, abusive single dad to be a jerkass and think of himself as an absolute shit. He saves the day several times, persists in thinking the worst of himself and is never, ever happy or ever feels better about himself. The End. Wash, rinse and repeat 8 times.

As an example, at one point in one of the books, he kisses a girl he likes. It's okay, but he thinks of himself having "molested" her because he didn't ask her permission first. And it's just a closed-lips peck! I was like Huhwha?

The book is about a warrior named Okonkwo in a Nigerian village. Basically white people come and colonize the hell out of Nigeria. Okonkwo is the best warrior in his village, and hates the white man threatening his way of life. Tension builds for many chapters. It was fun to read about the tension, and about Okonkwo's thoughts. However, Okonkwo kills himself in the final chapter making it the most anticlimactic thing ever.

NO, NO! THAT BOOK IS SO GOOD.

The ending is anticlimactic for a reason. It's supposed to emphasize the futility of the African peoples' struggle to keep their culture. At very end the white preacher makes the part where Okonkwo kills the other white guy part of his book on the savage tribes of Africa, while we realize the tragedy and true story of the whole thing (that's dramatic irony for ya).

Hopefully you got the gist of that. I'm terrible at explaining things.

I understood it when I read it, and still think it is terrible. I understood Fahrenheit 451 (what Ray Bradbury intended, not what everyone says it is) and didn't like it. It just isn't my cup of tea. I prefer things to be resolved rather than things just ending.

That's because it's supposed to be a personal account of life in Ireland during that period. I'm of Irish ancestry, and my family left the country because of the lifestyle depicted in the book.
I think that explains why my father is so fond of it.

I wouldn't really say these books are "bad". I'll just say that I didn't like them.

Dracula- It starts off great but then gets really boring.

Skullduggery Pleasant- I only read a few chapters and then stopped. The story didn't interest me at all and I found it empty and hollow. Not my cup of tea.

The Shining- Again, I only read a few chapters. Way too much exposition, in my opinion; it felt like King was trying too hard to make his characters three dimensional, and I really didn't like them.

But out of the books that I have rea they would have to be either, Descent of Angels or Scourge the Heretic both 40k books (Actually Descent is 30k really) both were utterly terrible I only got mostly through Descent being a fan of the Dark Angels and barely even hit half way through Scourge before giving up entirely.

I'd have to go with "Of Mice and Men". There was very little in the book that got me into it, and I hated the ending. The only reason I trudged through it was because it was for class.

If I don't like a book, I'll usually just stop reading. I don't read as much as I used to, due to a busy schedule.
