I've had enough of people slating Fable II just because their master Yahtzee said so. It's a fantastic game, and you can go an argue with my dog if you think otherwise.
I hope this quote doesn't get messed up:
No I don't think Fable 2 is bad, in fact theres a lot of things I like about it... the combat however is not one of them. I like Fable 2, not as much as the first Fable but still I appreciate the music atmosphere and dry wit of the games.
And also I don't blindly obey everything Yahtzee says in fact I agree with you in your hate for people who do so. I mean I respect the man, he is funny after all.. but that doesn't make his opinions valid.
...holy crap! Thats pretty much my views exactly.

Fable > Fable II.

Yahtzee funny, but not always true.

First of all Fable 2 is deffinately not a hack and slash game.
I'm going to throw my vote at Too human, there's absolutely no depth to the combat wahtsoever, you just push the analogue stick in the direction of the enemies and that's pretty much all there is to it.
Everything about Fable 2 combat pretty much screams hack and slash. Mash the same button for 7 minutes, press the button that makes the little XP orbs come to you, repeat.
I think There's more to the combat than that, and either way combat isn't the only thing in Fable 2, so I wouldn't classify it as a hack and slash game.

Ninja Gaiden has got to be the worst. Yes Too Human was awful but the machanics worked. They were boring as hell but they worked. Dynasty, Samurai and all the rest of those types you know what you are getting into before you play (well at least you should by now). Button mashing your way through a septillion enemies per disc who pose no threat to you. It may not be a game you can play for hours on end but it does serve as a nice break on occasion. Ninja Gaiden though had the potential to be great. It is kick you in the teeth hard but not because of the enemy's tactics or abilities. No what makes it hard is cheap off screen projectile attacks and one of the worst cameras I have ever seen. It would rather show you a wall or underneath of a bridge you are on then the 10 guys kickin your ass.

i haven't actually played it, but from the looks of it ninja blade's fighting looks pretty poor. there's no ninja like elements and random quicktime events for every enemy! perhaps i'm wrong, but it looks shit!
The random QTEs for every enemy are completely optional and sometimes you won't even get the chance before they are dead. Bosses you need to do them though. You get shurikens and katanas as well as wall runs and using wires from your blades to get around so it isn't completely devoid of ninja type combat. Although it isn't all ninja type combat either since there is some gun turret sections. It is not great or perfect but it does have it moments that made me forget some of the crappier mechanics since I was having alot of fun. Not something that happens to me very often anymore.

Of what I've played: I'm gonna go with Onechanbara. Having to rid your sword of the blood kills pacing and stops the flow of hacking.

X-Blades is actually one of the best hack-n-slash that I've ever played. Great use of magic mixed in with the hacking n slashing.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is still my favorite hack n slash. Just felt right.

Ninety Nine Nights: Playing as Klarann.

I would NOT like to smash a goblin with a two tonne rock-stick.
I never got to play that game > I wonder if I can get it cheap now =)

Played the demo like 50 times 'cause the combat system is pretty smooth, but I can imagine a dude with rock on a stick being really cumbersome to play as.
Dude, get it. I love it. The story is great, mowing down hordes of goblins is fun...as long as you're not doing it with a giant rock XD.
Yeah...well...playing as Tyuruu or whatever. The witch girl. That killed my thumb dead. It was fine in the rest of the games. But the amount of mashing required to kill anything with her was insane!

Its actually the reason I stopped playing the game. The sole reason.

Dwingvatt was awesome. Best character in the game for gameplay.

He seriously was overpowered if you got him to level 9, especially with his speed and all XD.

Dynasty Warriors and it's siblings.
I do believe that is blasphemy sir. There are plenty of worse hack 'n slash games. Too Human for one. Dynasty Warriors has a hell of a lot more depth.
That is saying a lot. But Too Human was much than DW. The right analog stick for combat was flaw...HAHAHA I can't even admit that. Lord was Too Human bad when it came to the Hack and Slash.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. That may seem like an uneducated choice, and it kind of is. I haven't played many, but I found the endlessly repetitive and irritating.

WAIT! WAIT!

Soul Calibur Legends. Oh god. Why was that game made?

The dynasty warriors games are fun, but the enemies are lacking. I'll say I like the DW: Gundam games. I thought the Drakengard games weren't bad either.

The first Drakengard is definitely a decent game - the plotting was especially good - but the combat system is really underwhelming. Mash SQUARE for the one combo and when you've done that enough you get to press TRIANGLE for one magic attack. End of.

Bloodrayne? Not sure that counts entirely. It was so twitchy. Still enjoyed it though only paid a couple of quid for it

Probably any slow-attacking character in Dynasty Warriors because of the massive interrupt.

I also love DW: Gundam. Best hns I own.
