Hmm...I have vista, but I don't seem to have any real problems with it, except that when ever I moved or deleted a file a progress bar would come up and immedietly freeze, but that's fixed now.

And when our family got our first pc the hard drive packed in in the first few WEEKS and the good people of Time computers wouldn't replace it; so my dad sat outside the shop, and told anyone that dare enter that the new computer they were to buy would break within weeks; so they gave us a new hard drive ^_^

Here's an interesting one: My Computer, in a fit of brilliance, decided that the source of all its problems was the internet. So it decided to frakk up my WiFi. The emitter is just about 2 inches from the router and I was getting 0 signal. I had to run a few cables into the Router, retool my firewalls and have my semi-retarded Computer do the rest. It took 5 hours to get my WiFi back.

Another one is when my anti-spyware thought itself was spyware and blocked itself. Very amusing.

The worst was when my computer tried to boot off of my Homeworld 2 disc. I had to manually restart it 12 times before it got the picture.

and Error 404: Not Found on every drive but my flash drive. At least I backed up the novel I'm writing.

My worst problem was dealing with Gothic 3. >=|. Damn you Germany.

Also having to deal with a roommate that you loaned your two old computers to and watch him completely mess everything up with bad porn sites. He can't even log into Windows. But worry not! For Dell is sending him some poor Inspiron in the mail. Oh if only some computers could see the people that are purchasing them. *E-shudder*

well when i was on call i went to someone house and it REEKED of urine, sadly i saw no cats about and the youngest person living there was probly in his 30s. when i left, the fresh air actually hurt my lungs and i coughed for 5 mins straight

had a call at my work when i was out west, buddy asked if i could do a site visit, i couldn't and told him he would have to go. when i returned i asked him what was going on. he said the project manager (a master electrician no less) asked if he could move pcs and such down to the other end of the trailer. of course that should be easy. well they moved them and got the call saying "it's not working", this is when i got the call, when the tech got there he went to the power bar and turned it on and walked out again. we never let the pm live that down cause he was an electrician and should have known

as for ram issues, my friend had pc issues and went to install windows again, so he tried to install it from a cd, didn't work, tried another one, still didn't work, tried a third and kept dying on a certain file, changed drives, with same results. his dad who still has an osbourne at home, suggested a few other things to try, i reached into my answer spot and pulled out an odd ball one, said pull out the ram sticks till you have one left. his dad was like "that shouldn't be the issue" and i was like "well only thing we haven't tried without saying board is fubar". so we pulled the ram till there was 1 stick left, installed windows and then had to figure out which chip was the bad one

Windows Vista's good ol'

"you have to be the motherfucking administrator to do this stupid shit"

so I click on the continue button and wadda ya know, it won't let me continue because I am supposably not the administrator!

I only have one account on my computer and have never had any others so who the hell else am I supposed to be Windows, the cleaning lady?!

crap, that felt good.
Vista does what windows 2000 does. There's a user, guest, admin, and 'full admin'. As we learned in our computermaintence class, and while trouble shooting my brother's. You have to manually set your admin to full admin. Even XP had this, but the admin's were about on par.

I have a cute little (fairly cheap but shush) flat panel that I bought three years ago. It's still in gold conidition, never had a problem with it until a few months ago. My roommate, bless his soul, sat down at my computer and somehow managed to impale his knee on my tower. The tower went slamming into the wall and the monitor cord gets screwed up. Now it has to be held at a certain angle pressed up against a wall for the image to come through.

But wait. That wasn't a big problem when the computer was sitting in my dorm room. It was small, hard to shake anything, blah blah blah. But now I have the computer at my brother's house. He has two small children and a teenager. They ALL walk like elephants. When they walk by my computer, the picture flickers on and off. If I'm lucky it comes back. If I'm not... well then I have to readjust the cord.

I have never messed up my computer in any way but one time my brother did. Somehow he managed to make the hard drive burst into flames. It was completely melted and unsalvagable.

Motherboards are my Achilles Heel. The first PC I ever bought for myself, custom job costing over $4000, died from severe Mobo Trauma. The PC had multiple problems crop up from time to time, and the numerous trips to the repair shop cracked the motherboard just enough that it would work as if nothing was wrong, but crash or fuck up at random times.

Faulty motherboard (and every other component) on my Dell laptop. Never wanted a Dell, but I wasn't the one paying for it so I had little say. The piece of shit never worked right, caused me all sorts of pain during my college years.

No real Mobo problems with my last PC, but the new one I bought just over a year ago, the motherboard went all Chris Farley on my ass, and died. I got a refurb replacement three months later, but had to shell out for a new board (which is currently in it) because I couldn't wait for the warranty fix. Cost me an additional $360 or so for a part that WAS warranty covered. I now have a spare, and bought the extended warranty service on the replacement, but I still feel sore in the ass from where the shop raped me of my money.
Dude, if you're a gamer you really need to build your own computers. It's ridiculously easy nowadays as long as you are a bit cautious and take your time. Everything's Plug-N-Play and there are loads of on-line resources to help. You don't save much (any, really) money for a general purpose computer, but savings for a gaming computer can be significant. You can put in exactly what you want, and most problems are easily fixed without paying some sixteen year-old an arm and a leg.

Now I remember back in the day, when there was no Internet and no books or magazines and there were no standards and you were on your own and -

Yep, rocks was just heavier back then.

I was moving a partition on my C: drive and had left the computer alone for a few minutes. My son (two years old at the time IIRC) came over and held the power button down long enough for the system to shut down.
That memory still makes my stomach churn a little bit. There were files on that disk that I hadn't backed up yet, and I'm still annoyed that I'll never see them again.

The worst problem I ever had was my logic board frying on my iBook a few years back. I've also had miscellaneous problems, but that was the worst. Oh, and once I spilled coffee on my laptop. That was a bad week. Oh well, I got it back by Thursday.

one word, Vista.

can you buy Xp in shops still as this SUCKS!
Yeah, you can still buy it in stores. Even better if you're a student, you get a huge discount when you order through your University's bookstore. I've heard that Service Pack 3 may have alleviated the Vista headache, have you downloaded it?

I'm so intelligent.

I plugged my router in one day. Unfortunately, I plugged the 250v 140mA cord for the old modem into the 12V 25A router.

BANG.

For me it would either be one of 3 things: 1)PSU dying in a spectacular fashion (flashes, sparks, copious amounts of smoke) which thankfully didn't do any further damage. 2) Motherboard dying, while playing morrowind, which basically spelled the end of my first PC (It was pretty old anyway (Not to mention beige)). 3) Adding a sound card (Creative X-Fi) to my new computer only to have it corupt my entire Windows XP install. Not. Happy. Jan. (The card was later replaced free of charge)

I managed to corrupt the bios chip on my motherboard when an overclock failed and I had to hit the power.
