The Force Unleashed 2. while the first wasn't the greatest game of all time, the 2nd was one of the worst games i have ever played.

Devil May Cry 2
Half Life 2
Halo 2
Age of Empires 3

Just the ones off the top of my head. I haven't decided whether Dragon Age 2 is a bad game or an incredibly mediocre one.

Edit:

Medieval 2
Fallout 3
Doom 3

Damn, there are a lot of bad sequels.

No, no, no! Christ, what is with these comments. It takes more than one flawed game to ruin a fantastic series. I really wish this melodrama would stop.
I get it, it sucked, I know. But one game does not ruin the series that brought us Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, classics. No offence by the by, I understand your rage, I just dislike people taking it so far.

Anyway, on topic, I think the worst I've played was Metal Gear Solid 2, it was likely the worst of Kojima extenuated, still some great elements and Metal Gear Solid 3 made up for that, love that game.
Uh, Dude, in case you didn't know, Other M was Sakamoto's thing. It was what the creator of the series had in mind and apparently how he viewed the franchise. That pretty much makes what has been done in the franchise until now non-canon.

Besides, Other M declared the prime trilogy non-canon. Samus said in Other M that this was the first time she had worked in a joint operation with the federation. Other M takes place chronologically after the prime trilogy. So yeah... It's kinda dead... unless Other M is declared non-canon.

That's my opinion anyway.

Not the "worst" sequel, in fact its a really amazing game, but I'd say Freespace 2 was so damn amazing that it practically killed the entire genre of space-combat games.
I hate to say it for fear of starting a PC Console war but consoles killed the space sim. Think about the controls for Freespace 2, now try and fit them onto a controller. You would either get a game that unplayable on console or a game that is too simple to be a proper space sim. Even a nerfed Space sim like Freelancer (Not saying it wasn't fun, just that it is one of the more simple to control games in the genre) couldn't be done on a console.

Anyway I only checked this thread to see how long it took for Invisible War to be mentioned. So Invisible War. Not that it was flat out terrible game just that they took everything that was good about Deus Ex and threw it away.

Another answer, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, the game that killed the tactical shooter.

Other M.
Metroid is dead.
Oh stop being so melodramatic. Metroid will be fine, just so long as Nintendo hand it to a developer that actually gives a damn about making a Metroid game (hint hint, Retro Studios). One thing's for sure though, they won't be giving it or anything else to Team Ninja for a while...

The Problems of Other M were not Team Ninja's fault. Yoshio Sakamoto, the creator of the metroid franchise, wrote and directed the game. Not Team Ninja.

Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil's storyline, (or at least its premise) could at least be taken seriously up until that point. A multi-million corporation creating bio weapons that turn people into zombies is a badass premise. Parasites that have been buried underground for hundreds of years, accidentally being uncovered by miners, then spawning off a 'religious' cult that kidnaps the president's daughter... Yah... Any integrity out the window.

I enjoyed Fallout 3, but I can see why some people didn't enjoy it. But, you think Medieval 2: Total War was a bad sequel? That game still r0x0rz my boxers. I hate to strongly disagree with you on Medieval 2.

Medieval 2 has good combat and would be a good game if they hadn't added those bloody political elements making everyone hate me for warring.
Also that pope. Fuck that pope.

No really, fuck that pope

Empire Earth 3.

Not to say that Empire Earth 2 was particularly good either, but Empire Earth 3 is....well really awful, not sure if it's the worst, but the most brutally poor one I can think of right now.

You do know that Capcom makes stories like a washing machine would bake cakes, right?

Anyway, ignore the horrible story and what you have is a damn good game to play.

The ones that really get to me are...

Final Fantasy X-2
Shadow Hearts 3 (I loved the first two, but this is really depressing and makes me think that the series shouldn't keep going.)
Silent Hill Origins and Homecoming

These are the most prominent ones in mind. DX At least, ones from cherished games I loved that I felt were abominations.

If that's your problem, then just go for an Islamic faction. Or go Byzantine and rock out the antiquated Roman infantry. ;)

I hope you tried out Kingdoms. The expansion campaigns are hella awesome. Go nuts in the Britannia campaign.

I do get annoyed by the constantly respawning rebels. I really should mod them out of the game.

Well, I don't care about Capcom's 'track record'. I genuinely liked the storyline in the first few RE games.

It was my favorite franchise, and I was keeping up with the storyline pretty closely. And RE4 completely changed the way I looked at the artificial universe that they created with RE1, 2, 3 etc. It made me see the characters, the world they live in completely differently, in a bad way.
It takes more than gameplay and graphics to make a game enjoyable for me. Of course, even the gameplay doesn't resemble anything close to what Survival Horror should be. You don't need to conserve ammo, or resources, because there's always plenty. And frankly, no part of it was scary. It's a nice "action shooter". And even if those are just nitpicks, the storyline is by far the biggest factor that made me give up on the series.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, the game is too similar to the past Gamecube game and I really hated the main character in the first part.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Every time I think of it, I shudder at how awful it manages to be in every possible aspect of game design.

Oblivion, which was an endless slog through template-built locations with no plot or characters. Plus a broken leveling system and scaling.

Hell, if it had been pretentious and written by Belgians it would probably qualify as a high-brow art game.

MGS2 was great until the plot, one of the worst in video gaming, caught up with the gameplay.

And while I haven't played it myself, I hear Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is considered a war crime in some parts of the world.

DMC2 was pretty fucking horrible, as was Munch's Oddysee.

A more recent example is MGS4.
Oh god, forgot about DMC2. The series should never have been taken away from Kamiya, but at least the other sequels had the courtesy to be decent.

I'm also going to pre-emptively say the DMC reboot will qualify for this thread.
If sequels could be pre-determined to be non-canon, DMC2 and Other M deserve to be thrown into this category. Christ, they were awful.

And they'd better not do that to MegaMan Legends 3 dammit, otherwise I will fashion a giant blue cannon and go apeshit on somebody.

HL2 : Whatever happened to the fast paced interesting puzzle neat platforming-y-ness of the first game?

D2 : Oh god, the plot! This poorly written Schizofrenic peice of Retardation-Inducing peice of SHIT of a plot! God, what a terrible combat system! You can't move, and monsters move very quickly, so you may aswell sprinkle Choc-Flakes all over your shoulders and spray Ketchup in your hair! And, o' god the Characters! Laura never talks, emotes, moves, or even bothers about the fact that her best friend is beign devoured by giant Plant-Like demons infront of her eyes! She's just sitting there eating a bowl of Ready-Serve Custard without a care in the world!

Alot of other's come to mind, Like RE5 : Re4 is the only good Biohazard game, Fixed the combat, controls, and the just TERRIBLE Plot. Re5 Came along and fucked it all up.
Went from bad, Then from brilliant, Just back Downhill.

Theif 3 : There were alot of Un-Needed Gameplay Alterations that didn't need changing, a slip up for the entire Media.
