Worst gaming rip-off

I facilitated the purchase of The Longest Journey a few months back, under the Xplosive label. After I spent a couple of hours helping a nice old tree, taken sexist abuse from a jerk and following an old man, said old man eventually opened up a portal to an otherworldly realm. ?Ok, now it?s gonna get good?? I said to my friend grinning, as he was playing the game with me. We interacted with the portal and it returned the message ?Please insert Disk 2?.

Despite the fact ONE DISK had been supplied with the game. A disk that wasn?t even labelled ?Disk one? or ?Disk two? or ?Disk eight?.

No fair. Any other stories?

Ah. I see. That's either a software problem or a packaging error. Not really a rip-off, more of a mistake or bug. Check the Xplosive forums.

Aie. I feel for you, that sucks - and on such a good game, too!

Hmm, only time I remember this sort of thing happening to me was a few years back... I'm not even sure what the game was now (Unreal 2? Neverwinter Nights? Something I'd been looking forward to...). It came through the post, I unpacked it... and lo and behold, I had a copy of 'The Fairly Odd Parents: Shadow Showdown'. I had it exchanged easily enough, of course, but still quite a nuisance.

Ugh. I just got off from playing... The Longest Journey. It must have been a bug from porting a multi-CD game to a DVD or summit and I now feel stupid.

Well, in a pathetic attempt to redeem myself, there was that Ski Park Manager game that came without a tutorial or manual, leaving me gawping at the snowy screen like a clueless idiot which was annoying.

worst gaming rip off? I recently bought Clive barkers Jericho second hand for £10. completed it in 2 hours and NO multiplayer whatsoever, and it ended just as it was starting to get good! well i guess that's not so bad... but if I bought it brand new I'd be fairly annoyed right now.

I bought a copy of Final Fantasy VIII a while back because i was itching for some classic FF playtime, I got the game, started playing, all was good, i get to the point where i'm just nearing disc three, what did i find out after I got to that point?

My game had been shipped with two disc ones and no disc three...

I was hell-bent on revenge, but never saw fit to exact it.

Uh, did you actually read the OP's post? You should try reading things before you judge them to be duplicates. This is a complaint about a game which could not be completed because the requisite disc wasn't included, not a complaint about how a given game has copied gameplay elements from other games.

EDIT: if you haven't noticed, titles aren't a very good indicator of content.

Don't take it to heart, my experience of this forum is that sometimes even the forum staff can't be bothered to read past the first post or the title...

So users doing it isn't at all surprising.

It wasent a big deal or anything. I just like to point out stuff. I just wanted to show somone with 17 posts what to look for before they post. They could have posted what they put hear on the other thread...... Its not a big deal I was just pointing it out.

What does their post count have to do with anything?
Could have just, y'know told them that their topic title could do with a re-think so it relates more to the subject...

ON-topic: I experienced this with the old Gamecube RPG Lord of the Rings: the Third Age. It was supposed to be a two-disk game, but one of the discs was missing when I opened it. LAME.

Back on subject, I'd like to nominate the entire trend of having to pay for content that's already on the disk. Skate 2, and Bad Company do this.

Cracked made the metaphor of buying a car with air conditioning but having to pay to get it activated.

I feel I got ripped off when I bought the Witcher.

Not that good as I expected, and a... year later there is a cheaper box with 2GB more content.

Well, alright, but I hardly see what a post count or sign up date has to do with someones inability to use a forum, You could happily assume that maybe he knows how to use a forum? Anyway before this engulfs the topic, let's just agree that it was probably better to just tell him to consider revising his topic title.

I never got credited for making Tetris from the ground up. A Russian guy got me drunk and still the source code from the beer mat I wrote it on.
