And to beat you all right now : E.T. on Atari 2600

/thread
It is so cliche to label E.T. as the worst game ever made. A few issues ago Game Informer ran an article about movie games and mentioned that due to licencing problems, the developers of E.T. only had three weeks to make the game. I think that makes it a marvel of invention rather than a disaster.
DEVELOPER

not developers.

Howard Scott Warshaw made the Raiders of the Lost Ark game, and because of that game (it was pretty epic for an Atari game) Spielberg requested him specifically to make ET. He had 3 weeks from the moment he was told he was making an ET game til release. So he rolled up his sleeves, and did the best he could. Despite the negative reception, Warshaw is still proud of his work, to this day.

I think most people who call it the worst game ever are basically taking a piss. Yes, it wasn't that great of a game, but it was a game, and it involved ET phoning home, which was the major point of the movie. I think it looks pretty good, except for the forest area. If it didn't have the unreasonable "time/score/step" counter, I'd probably actually enjoy playing it.

Bebe's Kids is the worst movie license game ever.

"Bebe's Kids! It's animation!"

Bebe's Kids loses points because the movie it was based on was so awful to begin with.

Spider-Man on the PS2. Oh Light how I despised that game (traded it for some Duel Masters cards that I have no idea where went to this day).

Then we got Ghostbusters, every single one of them sucked (the new upcoming one might potentially be good)

And ET is unarguably THE worst game ever; all arguments against it are hereby void.

the Ghostbusters game on NES gets my vote. I am fairly certain the NES version could not be beaten. The final boss was the stay puff marshmallow man climbing the building and you had limited time to kill him. But you could knock him down a little bit buying more time. My friend brought over a game genie so we could finally beat it. Put it unlimited ammo and invincibility. We fought the final boss for about an hour before giving up.

according to wikipedia you could beat it though and you got a short message that says

"Conglaturation !!!

You have completed a great game.
And prooved the justice of our culture.
Now go and rest our heroes !"

this is a complete lie that game had no end, I swear

EDIT: The last boss was gorza or something. Guess my memory for something that happened when I was 6 (a little less then two decades ago) wasn't as good as I thought.

@ ace_of_something: Umm, hello? The final boss is Gozer, and you already have infinite ammo at that stage. StayPuff just insta-Game-Over's you if he reaches the top and shakes the building.

That message you quoted is also, and unfortunately, very very true. I cleared it myself with cheats and I am still traumatized by how horrible it is (and I found evidence that there are Japanese characters hidden inside the ROM which I found using TileLayer Pro)

Though probably not what I'd rate the worst EVER!!!!!!!, recently Golden Compass certainly went out of it's way to be extraordinarily bad.

no, the last boss was "Gorza"

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was basically a time limit on the fight, kill Gorza before Stay Puft comes up and kills you.

Nope. Ghostbusters on the Commodore 64 was quite enjoyable.

helmet> I found Eragon on the PSP to be rather fun, at least in short bursts.

Tanaka, I still think Kingdom Hearts is a pretty cool guy, eh kills heartless and doesn't afraid of anything... Well seriously the controls are great (except for the jumping puzzles), and even if it's quite standard JRPG storytelling with Disney characters rubbing it in your face, I think the game has its own charms, provided you can survive the fandom and the horrible childishness of most JRPG characters...

Speaking of which the Master System Ghostbuster game was lame, and Ghostbusters II on game boy had a fair share of glitches and balance issues...
Oh ! Anyone remembers Terminator 2 on gameboy ? Man that game sucked hard, the puzzle sections made no sense and when you failed you had to start it all over again...
Funnier still, anyone played Terminator 2 for Amstrad CPC, IBM PC and Commodore/Spectrum ?
They were 2 different games (the IBM version including gunfights against the cops) and man it was lame... Driving levels were retarded, fights were weak, and the puzzles were not very interesting, still the graphics were amongst the best on a CPC 6128+...
Terminator 1 was not that great either, at least the SNES version sucked ass...
Robocop on gameboy was meh, the portrait minigame was hard, and it was almost impossible to beat... At least the NES version was cool...

Surprisingly enough the Batman and Batman Returns games were awesome, except maybe the PC version of Batman Returns by Konami/GameTek, which was a point & click investigation game with automatic fights and extremely hard to find clues... but it looked absolutely beautiful for a 1994 game...

Oh ! And what about the Blues Brothers games ? The gameboy version was midly fun but we all know Titus don't know how to code or make an ending, and the SNES version is a complete shame...

And Universal Soldier ? It was a shameless sprite swap on Turrican !?

Hunt for Red October was crap on a steek as well..

Man I'd forgotten how many movie licensed games there has been...

any game that is based on a movie will crap on itself because it wont be as good as the movie.
if the movie was bad then the game will be even worse
but i think the worst games are anything that is based on a Disney movie or show

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the legendarily-bad ET yet, the game so bad that it almost sank Atari.

Man, it sucked... maybe that's why I'm not so quick to condemn other games; in comparison, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer almost seems good.

Anton wins.

My vote goes to Iron Man. The movie was just fantastic, but the game...not so much.

I heard that fantastic four 2: rise of the silver surfer on the ds was not only one of the worst movie licenses, but also one of the worst games ever made. The review said that " the one good thing about the game was that it came in a box that could be used as a coster or door stopper." I am thankful I've never played it...

If by good you mean it's actually playable. =)
