I remember in my Runescape days, there was some Zamorak shrine or something on the edge of the wilderness and if you try to steal something from it you'd get killed. Well a scammer took me there and said, "Take that emblem, its worth loads" so I thought I'd have a bit of fun. I stood in front of the emblem and then said "Im trying to take it but nothing is happening" and he told me "You just have to click it" and I kept claiming that I was but nothing was happening. This went on for about five minutes until I said "Maybe you can't take it anymore" and then he tried it himself and got killed and I got his stuff!
Zamorak is really protective of his wine. Taught him a lesson, and you got some items for your troubles.

Knights of the Old Republic 2. I spent 1000 credits on a holocron to find out it was a fake.
I feel your pain got conned too by that.

Also got conned by a bloke in Divinity 2 dragon knight saga selling gear which looks purple and above quality. But then you buy it....and well it makes me wish i could of just decorated hes market stand with hes body parts.
The worst part was You couldn't kill him to get the credits back. Even if you were a sith. I wanted to rip his intestines out and strangle him with them(cookie if you get the reference).
Sheogorath.

OT: Never fallen for a scam. Never trusted others, particularly on Runescape. I actually tried to scam people once, I was young and foolish, but alas, my conscious got the better of me, I gave back the gear and apologized to the player before leaving for newer pastures.

On a pokemon type game someone offered to train all my friends monsters to the highest level in half an hour all he had to give the guy his password. He fell for it and lost all his monsters as a result.
What Pokemon game was your friend playing? Because every Pokemon game I've ever played, and I've played all the versions, has never had an account with password system. The only way the guy could have taken your friend's Pokemon is if the guy stole your friend's handheld or other gaming system and then linked his system and the stolen system and then traded them.

Well, unless your friend was playing on one of those unsanctioned online PC Pokemon games that Nintendo will seize and destroy if they find out about it.

RuneScape was my addiction from 2003-2010. The one that amazed me that anyone fell for it were people who lured others to the wilderness.

Oh yeah! It was wine, I remember now! The guy also pleaded with me for ages to get his stuff back and I basically told him he wouldn't have lost his stuff if he wasn't being asshole so maybe he would learn from that.

Serves him right.

Honestly though, what the hell does a god of evil need wine for?

Anyway, good to have new members in the forums. Hope you enjoy your stay.

OT: Was playing Borderlands online.

Guy wanted my super-duper blasty shotgun thingamajig in "exchange" for an aimbot.

I loled and gave it to him anyway. I wouldn't be using it three hours later, anyway. I'd find something much better.

I haven't played Runescape in a few years but I do remember one instance where I was with some high level guild mates in the Karajamba volcano. I logged off and they had left eventually so I was a lone level 69 on the higher level members only part of the island. Instead of walking back to the boat or using my home teleport spell I decide to do some exploring since I felt pretty confident after I tried my hand at the agility training course and with an inventory full of fresh shark I caught by hand thanks to my days spent learning the ways of barbarianism. I started walking deeper into the jungle with my intended goal of a the one bank on the island a decent distance away. I see some high level enemies but I fight off the weaker ones and avoid them in groups. Out of nowhere a level 92 player comes and says that he's quitting Runescape and offers to escort me to the bank to give me some stuff. I'm not thinking this is a scam because that was where I was going anyway and I was fairly confident that together we could fight any attackers off. He then proceeds to lead me into a group of pygmies that only attack me and completely avoid him. I take two down but they're poisoned spears (and I'd never encountered poison in all my travels) made be engulf every one of my roasted sharks. I don't lose anything too important. Nothing irreplaceable at least. Glad that I kept my gilded adamentine shield. That was my prized weapon.

The Evony ad campaign. They were advertising with boobs. Perfectly normal, except the boobs were advertising a crappy Civ clone.

For the ads:

lol scammers,
I count myself lucky that I learned about them early though what I now refer to as the "hot dog incident"
I was young and was into the now infamous pet site Neopets and someone tricked me into buying the food item starry hot dog for like 100k in game points (it was worth about 5k) thinking it would turn my pet "starry" colored (which it didn't) I reported them they were suspended for a month and I learned to look stuff up on help sites before trusting someone

I thank arceus it wasn't something more valuable like my whole account or credit card info that got lost to learn the lesson

nowadays I just ignore and report them but I used to troll them cant think of any good stories though

I always like the guys in WoW who send out the mass-whispers or in-game mails to people claiming to be from Blizzard, filled with tons of spelling errors and no punctuation, claiming that your account has "breached securtiy" or some other such nonsense and so you should go to their obviously fake website to put in all of your login information. I can't really think of any specific examples anymore because the last one probably happened back in Wrath and I really only log on about two times a week for raids with my guild now.

I think the worst one I got was for a website called Gaiaonline. It was the usual shitty private message saying they were an admin and that they needed my password and credit card info. Of course with horrid spelling and grammar. I fucked around with them for two hours asking them questions, asking them for gold, giving them an incorrect password, and finally telling them to get locked in a burning car. :3

I don't remember ever being scammed, some people may have made attempts but I completely forget.

Oh yeah, EVE Online: "Quitting EVE and giving out all my stuff, just send a donation to show me you're interested. Offers under 1 million isk will be ignored."

I got a couple on steam like 'log onto this site for free games' or whatever.

I replied with 'does anyone actually fall for that stuff?' and I could see the guy started typing but changed their mind and didn't say anything XD

I got scammed in diablo 2 back in the day. Had a high level character and made a crappy item to give to my low level character (still better than what they had since I had just started the new character).
With no way to trade between characters you had to drop it on the ground somewhere, switch characters, then pick it up.
I put it somewhere obscure, but a 'friend' suggested a better spot where people wouldn't see it. Came back and he'd taken it. Kinda annoyed but at the same time the weapon was crappy so i don't really know why they bothered XD.

Besides the numerous notifications of hacked WoW and Runescape accounts I've only officially felt scammed when I got my first Nigerian Prince E-mail.

It felt like a initiation, and that I finally was part of the Interwebz.

Happened 2 weeks ago, my parents were planning their vacation and they found some new resort that was opening this summer. They sent me a link and I found it weird that the pictures showed customers even though the resort wasn't open yet. So I checked the billing and saw that the payment had to be made into a personal account instead of a firm account.
My dad's a cop so I suggested he check into it and it turned out it actually was a scam.
