I didn't really like Team Fortress 2. I got it very shortly after release and it was still already too late to even try and get into it. It's the sort of game where, if you're not one of the first in, you're doomed to get beat down by everyone you come across and therefore get nowhere.

Maybe I'm just really bad at it, I don't know, but either way I'm not a big fan.

Half Life 1. It was good for it's time, great even, and it inspired and eventually led to amazing things. But time has not been kind to the game itself.

I could never really get into TF2. Going to get a lot of flak for this, but I could never really enjoy it.

SORRY!

They actually did just <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Episodes_from_Liberty_City>that.

God yes. Half Life 2 is so overrated. Somewhat shallow game-play, dull characters, a gimmicky gun, and paper thin plot with a few massive holes in it. While I enjoyed the first, Half Life 2 definitely stands out as one of the worst Valve games I've ever played.

are you people mad or something? Saying that Half-Life 2 is "poisonous" to the game industry is like saying that 1984 is bad. Half-life 1 & 2 are good, they have fairly good stories. perhaps you two should just go back to Halo

Half-life: blue shift isn't the worst, it's just bland

Sad to see people think Half Life 1 hasn't aged well. I still love it and sometimes play it as well as the expansions (which most people seem to hate but Opposing Force is my personal favorite in the Half Life series). And the HD model pack doesn't make it look as aged as the original.

I can't really think of a truly bad one, so I guess Episode 1. It was short, not varied and just felt like tacked on filler. Not to say it was bad, it was great fun, just weak sauce compared to the rest of Half Life 2.

Other mentions include:

Half Life: Source. Could have been amazing but was just a lazy port of the old game to the n ew engine only adding ragdoll physics.

Counter Strike: Source. A decent game that I love playing with bots but the player base are even twitchier than CoD players. Can't blame that on Valve so much, but still.

not a fan of valve at all and to me their worst is Team Fortress 2. No excuse for the lack of bots and I hate the aesthetic of it.

I would volunteer Half Life: Blue Shift, but I'm not sure if that counts as it was not a standalone Valve Game. Other than that, I will go with Alien Swarm - but hey, at least it was completely free.

The runner up would be.... hm. I don't really know. Valve haven't released too many games, in case you haven't noticed. I can't think of any horrible games that they've released recently.

Half Life 1 has not aged well at all, but you can't compare a game released way back in the mid to late 90's by today's standards. Few games really age well anyway.

i would have to say Left 4 Dead 2 is valves worst, it was planned to be DLC then it had to much content to be DLC (Debatable) then it was planned to be a Expansion pack witch is what i see L4D2 as.. its just a expansion pack not a real sequel in my eyes

anyone here played GTA IV's lost and dammed or ballad of gay tony? Rockstar could of just as easily combined both TLAD and TBOGT touched up liberty city and shipped it as a new title

im not saying L4D2 is Bad no no no, im just saying in comparison to everything else valve have released l4d2 has to be the worst Actual standalone game and would of been much better off as DLC or as an Expansion pack

i mean come on... look at that DLC for "The Passing" that gave both 1&2 the first campaigns of each other :|

in terms of being a cash grab Left 4 Dead 2 takes that spot for me witch makes me view it as one of valves worst games
Pretty much what I feel as well. L4D2 shouldn't have been a full price full game

I'd go with Ricochet, although on that basis I'm rather keen for Valve to remake it- if anyone can take Ricochet and turn it into something wonderful, it'd be Valve.

Ricochet, most likely. Hell, during an interview with Gabe Newell, after the interviewer rattled off a list of Valve's games, Gabe said "thanks for not mentioning Ricochet." So even Valve knows it's their worst game. XD
I got Ricochet for free when I registered my copy of the Half-Life Platinum edition. So I'd say they're not too fond of it.

Hmm, this thread isn't too bad - not a lot of sycophancy. I haven't yet read anything to make me particularly angr-

CRITICAL HIT

Isaac Asimov found 1984 to be a "dreadfully boring" book. He's generally accepted as one of science fiction's greatest authors. What, to you, does that say about him? And by the way, what point were you trying to make anyway - 1984 is too good in your opinion to be considered bad by any sane person? Half-Life 2 is a *blarg* literary classic for the ages?

Also, you're about a year (at least) behind on the hate train. Everyone knows you say "Go back to CoD" now when you want to demean or insult those you consider beneath you, because of their taste in games. Duh.

OT: Erm... not played very many Valve games. Episode 1, maybe, for being entirely filler (the whole thing could have been avoided if the Vorts had just teleported you outside of the city, rather than to the base of the tower... though that still would have been a bad case of Deus Ex Machina).

Lol! i actually forgot about that pack xD but my point was that at least those were DLC to begin with im fine with games dlc being packaged together because as we all know not everyone likes buying dlc or they dont play said game online or cant get online points and find it much easier to get it from a store.

Ultimately when L4D2 first came out and how it was advertised i still say L4D2 was valves worst and of course you have all the business with the censorship here in Aussie land and Germany (nothing a vpn cant bypass) *winkwink nudgenudge*

in terms of bang for your buck L4D2 left me disappointed and $60 poorer
L4D2 insulted more people than im sure Ricochet ever has/will witch is one of the reasons why i think thats valves worst game

Obviously I can't comment on all of them but of the ones I have played, Half Life 2.

I just can't get into to it for more than a few hours before losing any will to continue and wiping it from my harddrive, I have tried 4 times to enjoy it but it just doesn't do it for me personally.

Best though, probably TF2.

Half-life 2.

I've tried to like it, but the actual gameplay just isn't interesting enough to sit through all of the scripted sequences, pointless physics puzzles (weight something down by using the gravity gun to put garbage on it... for the 100th time), and level terrible level design (1 minute running through Valve?s scenery, 10 seconds actually fighting things).

The game just advances at a glacial pace, and none of the gameplay mechanics are interesting enough to compensate.

Since no one else has said it, I think I'm going to give this award to DotA2 early. Why? Because Valve makes first person shooters. I know the following about DotA:

It is a sequel to a mod to a game that Valve does not own.
It is not a FPS.

Going off genre like this doesn't inspire confidence in me.
Other than that, they have an excellent track record.

I know that a lot of people will disagree, but take into accord that it is an opinion.

Half Life 2: Episode 2

The game didn't do anything for me. It was a waste of time with a lot of cliche's.
I expected a lot more from that game, but it seemed that it had almost no memorable value (beside the ending) and when playing all of the Half Life 2 series it seems really really repetitive.

Even so, I will buy Episode 3 if it comes out (but Valve have a reputation to not put the number 3 on a box).

I would say Half-life, (I'm not sure which one this was) but maybe it was because I went in thinking of the gameplay footage (also not sure which game that was for) I saw of crazy guns being used on headcrabs and colorful facilities, a shooter that actually looked fun. What I actually got was dull, brown environments, dull, brown guns, (pistol, SMG, shotgun, etc.) and about 5 hours spent wondering when the gravity gun I'd heard so much about was coming along.
I was driving a boat(?) over a river of radioactive sludge to open another gas-mask-guy-controlled gate when I realized I didn't even care anymore, there hadn't been much of that amazing story I'd heard someone boast about and the gameplay felt like pulling teeth. (hence the level called "root canal," I guess)

Playing the Orange Box a year or so later, I started a different Half-Life game in which Dr. Freeman and the female companion had apparently just vacated somewhere by way of airborne subway car. Escaping the wreckage, I was able to play with the long-awaited gravity gun, picking up anything I could and blasting it into the sky.
"Wow," I thought, after killing my first giant bug thing, "that's kind of like the telekinesis plasmid in Bioshock... which had a lot of other enjoyable murder techniques. Which I liked much better than anything I've even heard about this series. In fact, one could say Bioshock mostly provided the crazy combat and pretty environments I initially hoped for in Half-life in addition to the standard pistol, SMG, shotgun, etc. with UPGRADES, so I've really just wasted my time with this overrated tripe."
Live and learn, no?

I didn't like TF2, but online shooters aren't really my thing, didn't care for Shadowrun, either. Between a plain orange and a rotton apple, the apple is probably worse even if you hate oranges. [sub](the slippery-fleshed bastards)[/sub]
