Worst Video Game Endings

It's not often a game makes you feel like you really wasted time.

just because NO ONE is going to mention this...
a few years back, my friend had Ben 10 for the Wii (we were still kids). It played okay, we go into the alien storge unit, fight a bunch of guys and... It plays a cutscene of them wondering how they're gonna get out... roll credits... we raged so hard.

All too true... In my case I gotta say... ALL OF THE FRIKKIN ENDINGS FROM MARVEL VS CAPCOM 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


FUCK OFF CAPCOM!!!!!!! (The rest of the game was fun, but seriously... Why devs have so much trouble writting figthing games stories/endings?)

Golden Sun really pissed me off the first time I played it. I was loving the game and then BAM it just ends right in the middle of the plot. I was so pissed that I wiped my save file (I had borrowed the game from someone). When I brought it back and they told me there was a second game that continues the story, I stopped being mad though. In fact, they had wanted to use my completion save to help them out with their progress through the second game that I decided to play the first one again (like I said, I was really loving the game until it goes "THE END LOLOLOLOL").

And then Golden Sun: Dark Dawn pulled the same shit, except even worse because it spent 80%-90% of itself on a side quest, and you don't even get back to main story until AFTER the credits finished rolling. That's right, you get back on track in the little tiny super-prologue scene. Real nice.

Fallout 3 before they fixed it. (the fact that they had to fix it is proof of its quality)

This. Fallout 3's original ending was so terrible. Thankfully they came to their senses and retconned it.

Borderlands. Seriously, what were they thinking? I was loving the game until the final confrontation.

This one too. You get that utterly terrible ending, and then they throw down one final slap in the face by going "Okay, now that you've seen the credits, take this trinket back to some lady who wants to buy it for what is a very small fraction of the massive fortune of money you have acquired by now." Oh gee thanks Borderlands, sprinkling a few more pennies on my already massive money pile that I can't buy anything with because all the weapons for sale are shit compared to my character now really takes the sting off of that ending you just made me sit through.

The ending of Link's Awakening on the gameboy. Wake the windfish destroying the island and the people on it because you want to go home.

You mean those people who weren't real on that island that wasn't real? Dammit Link you selfish fuck, stop killing all those non-existent innocent people so you can stop drifting unconscious in the sea and save a real creature from being tormented by real monsters.

Seriously dude, maybe you should go play that game again, it sounds like you didn't understand the plot very well.

I understood the plot the windfish needed to be awoken. Its just the fact that in the end Link is the instument of destruction to the people around him and their whole world, yet he never seemed to show any remorse for what he did dispite the fact that for the first half of the game the people and the island are all very real to him.

Now it could be argued that this is due to technological limitations but they could have gotten around this is some of the text by having other characters pointing out that he is looking at them in a funny way or that he's seems distant to them, that would have done something instead it is never addressed leaving me with the feeling that Link only fights Ganon as it gives him a chance to cause pain to others.

Vanquish. It made the whole game feel like a big shiny trailer. The final boss fight was an utter anti-climax...I literally beat it and was like "Wha...it's over...?"

That one pissed me off too. "Thought you killed the boss, huh? Hah! Now Hillary Clinton dies for no reason!"

Platinum hasn't made any sequels to any of their games yet either, so it seems like such a stupid place to stick a hook for one.

The whole "main" story sucked tbh though.

I loved FO3 but I agree. Most of my 200h playthrough was obviously spent exploring the environment and immersing myself in the world. The main story felt like more of a side quest than the side quests.

Also borderlands ending was horrid.

Link doesn't not show remorse, he just is an emotionally blank protagonist. It's not a bad ending, it's a difficult ending, that forces you to make a decision about whether it's worth giving up on a dream because reality is important. Remember, you don't HAVE to wake up the windfish. You could just go back to the village and hang out forever.

My choice? Starcraft 2. You hit the button on the magic alien retcon machine and turn Kerrigan back to normal. Then inexplicable betrayal comes out of left field. Then you completely ignore the big alien prophecy.

The ending to "Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days" needs no introduction, other than the fact that it was horribly rushed and had a jarring credits song to add insult to injury.

The climatic scene to "Half Life 2" was also a bit of a disappointment. The game itself was beyond incredible up to that point, and then things just sorta close out abruptly...

And "Bioshock's" bad ending was exactly that: bad. Lest you had the option to remedy that with the fulfilling conclusion if you saved the Little Sisters, though.

I'll agree with everyone who has mentioned Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. Not just the ending, mind you, but the whole framed narrative is aggravating and easily the worst part of the games.

As many people have said: Kotor 2. They cut the ending. That is to say, the game stoped after a rather nonsensical and rushed finale.

CoD6. I liked the single player, but the ending was just BEGGING for another money-grabbing sequel.

Resident Evil 4. Not for the actual ending but the flame war that erupted against Leon. Yes, he turned down Ashley, but after all the headache you went through with her, you telling me you'd take her offer? not to mention she's the daughter of Leon's boss. Instead, you know what he did? He hit on a woman his age right after he turns Ashley down. Damn flamers.

Also, the edning to XIII, not the final fantasy game. The first person shooter from ubisoft. You go through this whole consperacy and uncover a plot by the vice president and then. . . . nothing. No sequel, so resolution, the charcter get's caught, the game ends.

The ending was obviously made under the assumption that there would be a sequel. It's our faults for not buying enough copies of the game!

I know! Not enough people appriciated that game. Adam West was in it. Adam West! Thankfully I found the series the game was based on so I know how it was supposed to end. Still, it makes me sad that not a lot of people will get to experiance the whole story.

And i most likely won't play ffXIII-2 because I disliked the char's or rather had no feeling whatsoever for them, the plot was horrible, what a tik, what plot...I was completely disassociated from everything that makes an immersive gaming experience.
