Before you say anything, yes, this was inspired somewhat by the other topic "Worth dying for." See, it's all well and good to be noble and honorable and talk about the things you would give your life for; but I believe there are things that make living worthwhile, and those are the things that are the absolute most precious in this world.

Afterall, why would anyone want to live in this world? There is poverty the world over, hunger just as prevalent, and the efforts being made to rectify these problems - not too difficult to do, in truth - are shamefully small. Ignorance and discrimination runs rampant, and not only are there far too few people trying to educate these ill-knowledged folk, there are even those who try to feed these ignorant, hateful thoughts and beliefs. These few problems are, as the saying goes, only the tip of the iceberg.
Mind, these are just the problems of the world at large; we all have our own problems with life, don't we? From the small and trifling to the large, oppressive issues that keep a person from enjoying a second of their waking lives.

So why do we cling to life, in the face of overwhelming injustice and the failures of humanity? What are the things that make us soldier on through everything that makes the eternal sleep look enticing?

For me, first and foremost, it'd have to be the knowledge that I have way too much left to do; I don't mean just the fun life-experiences I want to do - vacation overseas, try every kind of food there is, and so on. I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I think I've come up with something close to the meaning of life, or the all-encompassing purpose we have: To leave this world a little better than when we came into it. I haven't fulfilled that obligation yet, and I would be cursing myself for eternity in the afterlife if I couldn't.

*cough* Anyway, apologies for my slightly self-absorbed rambling. People who know me know that I will happily wax eloquent, given half the chance.

This would basically be a 'purpose to life', which I believe should be specific to each and every person. No one person should have the same purpose as another unless they truly looked at themselves and found that purpose to be their own.

As for me, my reason to keep alive is for the lovably cheesy chance at love. That's the simplest way to say it. There's really no other reason for me to live, methinks.

To make yourself the most badass person in existence.

Or to just have a great load of fun and experience as much as you can.

Well then... My purpose in life, my reason to live... Tough one....

I want to live because I want to find out what's gonna happen next

Music, all the great games that have yet to be released, my family and friends (kinda obvious), the fact that i'll soon know psychology (Which is one of my biggest interests), to see what'll happen next(new technology, learning new things, watching society changes as you grow older etc.)

As stupid as it may sound, experiencing all the feelings there are throughout a lifetime is like collecting all the achievements in a game.
It does not matter whether you experience true sadness or happiness, it is an experience that you will never forget, even if you want to.

Having problems is not as bad as people portray it to be. Is it not a great feeling to find a solution for your particular problem by making the right decisions? You can learn so much more from a single relationship problem, than by reading books about psychology, even if you do not find the solution. Problems are the origin of your hobbies and general perception of the world.

Now, of course most of us want to feel the best feeling of all, - happiness.
Are you happy to join the escapist forums and talk with a variety of people?
Well, if there were no problems, there would not be any variety. We all know that, right?

Living your life and succeeding (or failing) in overcoming all obstacles is the reason you should be happy to live, just like playing the massively bug ridden and frustrating game Arcanum is worth playing because of its great atmosphere and story. (hint at what I'm trying to do right now).

I'm a bit of a people person, so definitely friends/family and the other brilliant people I have yet to meet. Again, to see what spectacular things are going to happen next in the world. Finally, my acting aspirations, which is my purpose for the future I feel. No other feeling like standing on the stage in an empty theatre ten minutes before your audience arrives :)

At this point, I think the main reason I keep living is because I'm too stubborn to kill myself in frustration.
Other than that, I'm just looking forward to games, learning to drive a stick shift well, and hopefully getting back together with my girlfriend.

I live to see what tomorrow will bring. I want to see what will happen with the world in my lifetime. Whether it be good or bad, I want to see it.
