Looking for discussion forums on ones I browsed and this is one that popped up

Would allowing my 15-year-old daughter to visit her mom who will be in jail for 7 months for check fraud be a bad idea even if they have a good relationship since then she will see the inside of a jail and prisoners? Not to mention her mom in a jumpsuit. My daughter would like to go and seems enthusiastic and my wife says bring her if she wants but I’m not sure

Actually my daughter does not seem scared but instead seems excited and enthusiastic to visit. This is strange to me. Do you find this normal? My daughter seems to find the idea of her mom having to wearing a uniform, sharing a room funny. I wonder why she would think it is funny. My wife says bring her if she would like to and my daughter says she would like to but I don't know if it is a good idea. She hasn't gone yet so we can still discuss it together.

So wait a sec, is this something happening to you or is it something you read on a forum and you're reposting it here?

I'd go over and let her see her mom, reassure her that she's doing fine.

By your story, your daughter doesn't seem distraught about her mom being in jail or having to wear a jumpsuit.

Keeping her away might seem like it would do more harm. But eh, what do I know 🤷‍♂️

My guess is that this is something that may or may not have actually happened to a real person somewhere and a bot is reposting it.

Yeah, thought it'd be a bot, but can't see the reason behind it.
This is the case with most of the bots we've been getting. I can't understand the point behind any of them. Just completely random stuff without any links or anything. The only way it makes sense is if it's actually the Escapist trying to make the forums look more active then they are, but that's obviously not the case because the Escapist doesn't actually give a crap about the forums.

Also the bots are just infrequent enough that any amount their activity has increased the Escapist's traffic is nominal.

Someone on Armslocker actually says they saw something pretty much the same 'years ago' on the site, so this might be a really old one.

Depends. If you look at the post history (which I definitely know you do, Drath), for the ones that aren't one shots, you'll see some common stuff they try to shoehorn into a conversation or will repeat to maybe sound 'normal', but then you eventually get the actual advertisements but usually covert, and may not even be outright links. I'm thinking this one is just really failing at stage 1, which may be the same for a lot of them.

Then again, I'm also not sure all of them are bots, since some may not have a full command of English when they do it. Somewhere between those off/quasi on-topic blog comments that lead somewhere else, and YouTube dudes promoting their channel.

That, or we're just a repository for broken bots that get stuck. Pick your poison.

Are we already declaring this place dead, then? Gotta love the positivity
The Escapist's main site, YouTube and Discord may have been gathering steam these past two years, but the forums are about as bare as they have been for years.

There's like one or two new members that signed up and actually post since April 2020? Don't get me wrong, this place is a good enough haunt for the 20-30 or so regular people who have been coming to the Escapist for a decade or so now, but it's just a back chamber on the internet.

Could just be someone testing to see whether their bot can seem human. It could be an attempt to sucker someone into getting in a deeper conversation and getting attached and/or otherwise giving up more info, although it's pretty unlikely set-up to achieve that aim.

9 times out of 10 its just an attempt to see if a Bot can get past authentication, and to see how long before Mods remove it. That way people can judge how successful spamming a site can be with bot ads. They did that all the time in Escapist 1.0. Wasn't uncommon to see the entire front page of Gaming News taken up by Indian bitcoin ads or Chinese knockoff video game consoles.
Also there were a few times Game Devs would just make sockpuppet accounts to just say "Hey, anyone here heard of X game? I just saw it on Steam and its cool!" and then a quick search of their user name would find the same account and message on 6 other sites posted that same day:

So, how is this thread not paste due to bot content?
To set the record straight, the OP has been banned, it's just the forum is terrible about letting people know that moderation has been done. I don't know when it happened, but you can tell because if you try to go to their profile it says you need an account upgrade to view it. The mods probably just left the thread here because there isn't anything objectionable in the content (other than dirty robotic lies) and people have been discussing it.
