Haveing raed about the new DC universe MMO, basically WOW but instead of night elves and orcs you have superheores and villins. I don't have all the facts on this but what I do know is that it is coming out on consoles not on PC's.
Mabey it is a brave new atemptin the feild of MMO's to be different.
Or mabey they're just scared of the compertion from the big PC names.
All I know is I'm gonna Kick supermans butt.

Nope, hardware requirements too high to keep good graphics. I think that's the same reason it's limited to 32 players overall per game on Xbox live, no?

Also that's been done, see City Of Heroes [http://www.cityofheroes.com/].

yes... just dont go crazy with the shortcuts and such... just keep it simple, have you ever played starcraft 64 or the sims in a console?... that games wasnt so bad and they are ports pc-console... so yes a mmo would work on a console Imo

The only that could be a hurdle is convincing people who already pay a subscription fee to pay a second for that game explicitly. Otherwise, I see no reason it wouldn't work.

-if one gets powerful enough it can, but at the moment I agree no great mmo can be made for consoles yes.
-MMO fees are a plague on humanity
-they wouldn't be needed if mmo's didn't have shitty combat
- not worth responding to.

Quiet! Don't tell them that! I made a mistake by posting FFXI, we're supposed to pretend like there are and will never be console MMOs because:

-Consoles can't handle them
-Console owners wont want to pay MMO fees
-Controllers are not keyboards and mice
-PCs are vastly superior to consoles in all ways and anyone saying otherwise is a heathen
Is that satire or serious?

How many can the PS3 handle at once in the MMOFPSs there are now?

About 60 if you're counting Resistance 2, and 256 if you really want to get hopefull for MAG/LAG as the kids are calling it these days even though we've only seen one trailer for it. Stupid assuming internet people.

Aside from the fact taht MMOs have been done on consoles (wether they're good or not is debatable), if done properly tehre can be a good MMO on a console.

HOWEVER, the MMO market won't suddenly switch to consoles if a game say par to WOW came on it, like how many FPSs are on consoles. The primary market for MMOs will always be PC but that doesn't mean that there can't be a few MMOs on consoles either.

It would and has worked as long as you have a keyboard for talking to other people. Yes you could use voice but that adds to network usage. But honestly I've always found a game pad easier to use than a keyboard/mouse combo. But that's another argument entirely.

I honestly believe Final Fantasy XI is the best mmo of all time, and it works on consoles perfectly. But that's because the goal was to have it be able to be on the console as well as the pc, so they tried their best to make it an even playing ground.

Even though it seems some people forget FFXI, it's still a wildy popular game, and as far as I can tell a huge portion of the players use consoles to play it and have a good time. Also, a few years ago I read a website (sorry can't give a definite source) that FFXI was the 11th most popular xbox live game.

An mmo playable in every console would be awesome. You'd have 3 factions, each representing a console brand (microsoft, nintendo, sony) and they'd wage war against each other, while saying "METROID IS BETTER THAN HALO"

This idea would rock so freakin hard

You know what? That is actually a good idea! Problem is, developers can barely make Console vs. Pc interactions let alone Console to Console to Console interactions.

You'd have to have an MMO that worked before you could have one that worked on a console.

ZING!

But all kidding aside, yes, MMOs are built in such a way that they require very little data to transmit, and as such it becomes possible to have the client-side do most of the grunt work, while the network connection only has to worry about sending and recieving very basic data, and graphics aside, very few MMOs require all that much grunt work anyhow, so if you scaled the graphics to the targeted console systems in question, yes, it could "work" just fine.

But it would still be an MMO, and I prefer to use my console for games. I do spreadsheets on my PC.

WoW has 10 million subscribers and could probably run on PS2 hardware

It would need to adjust its control scheme quite a bit, but it could be done.

Not saying it will, but the hardware can definitely handle it.

You could/can do whatever they hell you want and have it work if you do it right. Just because you can't put World of Warcraft on a console doesn't mean you couldn't put a MMOG on a console. If every designer that set out to make a MMOG would get their head out of World of Warcraft's ass and actually put some thought into the basis and execution of their game, we might eventually see this.

As it stands, the MMOG has become the new FPS: one metric fuckton of derivative crap for every ounce of creative innovation. For as many of them as there are out there they are all so similar its freakin' sick; they might as well be nothing but reskins of the same damn game.

A console would be perfectly suited to some kind of shooter or action RPG styled MMOG.

Why are people talking about hardware requirements? I think if consoles can handle gears of war and mgs4 they can handle world of warcraft and guild wars for christ's sake.

Also, if console developers simply added keyboard and mouse support the control scheme problem would be bypassed - I mean hell, there's USB ports all over consoles these days, why not put them to use?

No, that's just it. You don't need that. Use what you have available. Part of the reason I hate MMORPGS is that the extent of your involvement in the game is clicking on an enemy and mashing the 1-0 keys -- this is boring as hell! Make some games you actually have to play.
