Okay. So let me get on the rant now.

I am a Pagan. Wiccan. And I for one find this to be bullshit.

Halloween is a sacred holiday. Pagan New Year, my friends. And this bullshit is what makes me hate America.

Let me tell you, I'm done defending the intelligence of this country if no one can follow our own Freedom of Religion bit. Fucking hell, I can't even think straight right now in regards to this. Someone, please post a better rant. I don't even have words. There ARE no words....
Ok, so because you believe differently, people aren't allowed to celebrate a holiday in their own way? People can do what they want and thats what FREEDOM OF RELIGION means. It's in the freaking title. You're allowed to do whatever YOU want on christmas, and I wont call it bullshit.

Let people do what they want, you'll save yourself allot of worrying and whining.

1st off, Halloween isn't even recognized as a holiday by the United States Government to begin with. As far the federal government is concerned, how you want to celebrate the 31st of October is none of their business.

2nd, I don't see how a group of Christians is going to ruin your holiday, when

A)You're not christian and therefore will not be the target of this promotional advertising.

B)Very few people will most likely follow this idea

and
C) They're not forcing you to take part in it. I don't even know how you got the idea that this is violating your first amendment right.

I don't see anything wrong with it, assuming they don't go the way of the the Westboro Baptists (i.e. totally batshit) and start messing with the people choosing to celebrate Halloween more traditionally. They can do whatever they want, and have the right to promote whatever they feel, as long as they're not running around disrespecting others for their beliefs. Which, frankly, seems to be what the Original Poster is doing.

I just wonder if these same people still celebrate other holidays traditionally, like putting up trees at Christmas or hiding eggs on Easter. Damn near every holiday's "traditional" celebrations are rooted in pagan mythology.

I had an AP English teacher in high school who used to refer to Halloween as "Satan's Holiday". He also called the Indian casino in our hometown "Satan's Church". He was a bit of a religious nut. Nice guy overall though.

As a Pagan (not a Wiccan - I worship gods and goddesses from the Greek, Celtic, and Egyptian pantheons primarily) my first reaction is "Meh, silly Christian group being silly."

99.5% of the nation is going to ignore these fluff-heads anyway.

I mean, it could be worse. They could be saying that Halloween is satanic or some other ignorant bullshit. I mean, they're still implying it, but at least they aren't saying it.

Also... isn't Saturnalia Pagan new year? Or just for the Greek/Roman gods?
(Based on my research from before I converted to Paganism, Wicca isn't very picky on what gods and goddesses you believe in. I'm with you on those pantheons by the way. ^_^)

My buddy brought it up and he was pissed about it so I decided to see how everyone else would react.

Learn to laugh this stuff off.

Your life will be all the easier and happier for it.

Trust me on that one. It is silly when you really look at it.

The blatant fear mongering and racism could almost be forgiven if he made a "House of the Rising Sun" reference. Almost...

^^ I've been particularly into Isis lately. For various reasons.

Anyway, I'm honestly more pissed off by the campaigns to prevent people from saying "Happy Holidays" around the solstice. That's a perfectly comfortable, multi-religious phrase, and all the Christian groups started screaming so stores stopped using the phrase. THAT pissed me off.

This just makes me shake my head in mild disgust.

I'll be celebrating Samhain this year. Other people can do what they want.

Wow someone is offended because other people have different beliefs?!? Seriously though, if they want to have an alternative celebration on that day because they aren't hard enough for Halloween, then let them celebrate it, as long as they don't try to force other people to follow their celebration. Personally, I think I would enjoy Halloween much more.

Also, "Jesus Ween" sounds really stupid. The way they use the word "ween" makes it sound like the celebration is about Jesus's wiener or something... So wrong.

The Christians took over every Pagan holiday they could in an effort to covert as many as they could before killing the rest. The majority of them are arrogant in their faith, ignorant of their faith's history, selfish, severely intolerant, and engage in idolatry. Given their history, does this honestly surprise you?

Well they already mutated a Pagan tradition into Christmas. So it's not that surprising that some Christians will do the same with Halloween. On a different note, I hope this doesn't come off wrong or anything, but does anyone else think of a different group when they said they would be dressing up in white on Hallo-er "Jesus ween"? Just saying, although I do feel a bit ashamed for that.... :/

This is the thing that finally gets you ticked off?

You waited till now to notice.

The fact that your deities are never displayed as proplerly strong doesn't bother you, but this does.

I honestly feel bad for the kids who are forced to suffer this... Halloween is the shit. No dressing up in costumes, no watching scary movies and cartoons on the television, no haunted houses, and no gorging yourself on candy!

Poor kids :( Halloween is one of the biggest childhood defining events.

Not quite
Pagan refers to a belief system outside the major doctrines
Discordians are technically pagan, but All hallow's isn't their new year
(Just being pedantic)
Next up, I may only be a dabbling occultist, but I was under the impression that "Halloween" wasn't sacred to anyone, as it's a corruption of "Hallowe'en" which is from "All hallow's eve" (AkA All Saint's day) which is the christianisation of the first day of good old fashioned Samhain
Which isn't anything like new year, it's not a time for celebration, it's for contemplation and preparing your rites for the darker portion of the year
No-offense to your particular form of neo-wicca but if you're going to complain about America corrupting your belief system it would be nice to give a little more information about your belief system

I guess my point is
Yeah - I hate commercialised halloween too, but religion is constantly being corrupted; your beliefs are probably about as a far removed from the origin of wicca as halloween is from All Saint's, that's not an insult, simply a statement of fact, like comparing the new testament to the crusader's mindset, or the Crusaders to the modern catholics
Times change and culture changes with them, if you want to complain about Haloween disrepcting your beliefs then you should cut down on your excesses during lent and force all religions to reorganise their holidays so as to have no double bookings

Its not the government forcing anything on you, its just some folks practicing their "freedom of religion bit"

Don't get me wrong, it sounds completely ridiculous to me. Halloween is easily my favorite holiday.

Also, I'm fairly certain, at least here in my little part of the US that I don't need anyone defending my intelligence.
