I don't buy into hype, I also avoid most forms of media and hence don't get exposed to hype.

I've learned my lesson after Halo 3. Since then, I've lost almost all interest in post-2000 era games.

I haven't hyped anything since Spore.

Once you have your expectations crushed into tiny little pieces, it's hard to raise them again.

Where's the line between following hype and just looking forward to something? If I had to guess, it's the point where you lose the power of rational thought. And if you can't think rationally about a product then you won't be able to "disacknowledge" it. And by disacknowledge, I think you mean ignore.

Not acknowledging something means you're ignorant of it - in a different way than just not buying into something wholeheartedly. I'd rather be aware.

I don't listen to hype.

I only play and watch the things that I find appealing. Not because they are popular.

In fact, most of the time I am into something even before it becomes popular like Anime.

"Yay look at me I'm Alt because I don't buy into hype"

What so think people should just sit back and display no emotion whilst they wait for new games? Whats the point of your post, that I should ignore advertising? Developers advertise so we know whats coming out. We get excited over things that excite us. Would it kill me not to get excited, probably not, but then I would be depressed.

One word: Daikatana.
Speak of the Devil and he shall appear.

I'll be the first to be honest; I sure as hell buy into hype. If you get excited about a game in the slightest, you buy into the hype.

In the slightest, eh?

I mean, when I heard about Bioshock 2, I bounced around the room a bit. I also had people at work ask me politely, then impolitely to stop singing Beyond the Sea at the top of my lungs. The wallpaper on my home computer, as well as any computer which I've touched at work have the city in the sand from the teaser.

Would you say that I bought into the hype simply for this small bit of enthusiasm?

Hype
verb (used with object)
1. to stimulate, excite, or agitate (usually fol. by up): She was hyped up at the thought of owning her own car.
2. to create interest in by flamboyant or dramatic methods; promote or publicize showily: a promoter who knows how to hype a prizefight.
3. to intensify (advertising, promotion, or publicity) by ingenious or questionable claims, methods, etc. (usually fol. by up).
4. to trick; gull.

Yes. You did buy into the hype. By the very definition.
