Would this be possible to make on the source engine?

So, I rented Call of Duty MW3 the other day and had a lot of fun on the games survival mode (Basically all I played, because online was the same, and I was able to get about halfway through the campaign). But I was wondering if using Source SDK, I could make an improved version of the survival mode. Nothing major, just Overwatch soldiers hunting you, who would work together to find your location, and send in squads at a time to eleminate you, or adapt there tactics to more efficently challenge you. (Like, can I alter the AI path and program them to open doors, spred out, take cover, ect)
Could I alter the AI path of regular Combine Soldiers to do this?

Next, I want to know if I can chop a map up into smaller bits, I figure this is possible, I just want to make sure.

Next, can I set up a gamemode where there is a wave system, where each wave spawns in multible enimes at varying possitions, and where there are a few health kits at varying possitions across the map each wave. I would also want to put time enteriavls between waves.

also, can I put down crates or boxes or whatever that when activated bring up buy menus?

Finally, could I script something like a helicopter or a troop transport that can send in friendly units on command, where it will arive, drop soldiers off, and leave at a designated point?

Oh yeah, and how long do you think this would take?

Any answers to any of these questions would be much appreciated.

NOTE: This game would be on a personal level, where basically only I would play it. If enough people seem interested, if there was no legal trouble I would put it up as a free mod.

I think it's already been done and called Left For Dead.
Left 4 dead isn't a survival game in the terms I'm speaking of, it's a zombie assault game.

This uses Combine Soldiers, Hunters, Striders, Gunships, APCs, ect.
There aren't saferooms, and you have to hold out.

That's some Battle of Helm's Deep material right there. In fact, there's sort of a working version with the zombie mod in Counter-Strike: Source.

I think you might want to look at the helms deep map for L4D. It sounds similar to what you're talking about, but I don't know if that's what you'd want exactly.

Yea this all seems fairly simple. Except for AI, unless of course thats your thing, because writing AI for a game like this could take a loooong time. Consider getting Counter-strike AI source??

Not at all.

This isn't a zombie survival game, it's a holdout game. COD MW3's survival mode is the best example towards it.

Which are all easy changes to make.

My point was that yes, it can be done.

Well the map is survival. You have to hold out, not run through a level.

A "Holdout" game is basically "survival" which is basically "horde" which itself is basically "high score mode" from previous generations.

And yes, it's not possible in the Source enginge, but has been done many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many times.

True, but the player would be spawned in the map of there choice (Spanning from a downtown setting, to open rural setting) and they are allowed to freely move anywhere in the map. The players would have lots of options, and there would be a buy system implicated.

I love that map minus the epic frustration you get from it.

Ehh- I've played CS:S with bots A LOT (90% of the time), and I know they aren't that smart. Yes, they open doors, and occasionally work together, but I would have to go in and de-program all of the playstyles that can be used that would go against what I want in this game. Another thing about CS:S bots is they are 100% unpredictable, If put into the same situation twice, they never react the same way, which is good in a sense, and can help keep players on there toes, but I would just like a method to all of the madness.

I haven't really seen Combine soldiers outside of garrys mod, but I have recently played through most of episode 2, and in where you meet them, they seem pretty intelligent, much more than the modding software, but I would need to know if that was or was not a 1 time script.
