Alright so my friend and I were trying to pick on of his many safe's he has in his house so he grabbed a 10 pound weight so he could get a good shape on his paperclip to pick the lock. So he shapes it and without warning the weight slips and falls on my right hand ring finger that was laying on my kneecap, its very sore; could it be broken. It also ripped off some of the connective skin between my fingernail and skin.

Depends. How did it hit, blunt side or edge? What distance did it fall? Where on your finger did it hit?

Since your finger is not terribly thick it can be very sore just by being bruised as the bruise can go all the way through the muscle if hit hard enough.

Sounds like you more so just crushed down on the finger: aka compressed it. Worst case to best case: Bone shattered. Other possible cases: bruised the bone, destroyed a ligament, stretched a ligament, scraped your skin off, nothing happened.

Can it move? If so you are probably fine, but I'm no professional.

I am not a doctor, nor do I claim to be one.

Depends on alot of details not mentioned in the OP. So there's really no way for us to tell you for sure. It's probably not though.

I don't think it could break your finger, though you should definitely give it some rest. If it feels worse or doesn't get better in a day or two, see a doctor.

I think you would know if it was broken. Can it move? Does it hurt insanely bad? Did you hear a bone cracking?

i dropped a 10 pound bowling ball on my finger before...it didnt break my finger..but it was sprained, like when a basket ball would hit your finger and you wouldnt be able to move it for a few weeks...and it also broke the skin deep enough so i could see the bone, had to get stitches and a brace for it :D

Wouldn't think so.. I dropped a 45 on my index finger while doing a work out, and it was sore for a few days but eventually felt better.

That's the dumbest question I've heard today go see a freaking doctor! Why on earth would you ask someone on a gaming forum??

If it's broken, I think you'd know. I once broke a toe by slamming it into a wall. I never got it checked out, but I'm pretty sure it was broken because I couldn't fucking walk for two weeks without the aid of a cane. If I tried to walk without a cane, I'd be faced with very uncomfortable pain. That, and the entire front half of my foot changed a color ranging from royal purple to blue-gray and light brown.

If you can use your finger, I doubt it's broken. If you still have doubts, go see a doctor about it.

Disregard these questions.

Can you move it? If not, it's broken. If you can, probably a sprain.
