Hard drives ARE optical discs just like CD's.

There are several problems with your idea. One is that you can't burn things straight to a disc. Nothing works that way, ever. You have to download it to your hard drive, and then burn it to your disc.

The second problem is that console hard drives are just too small anyways. Some people like to have more than 25-40 games ready to play at a time and a Simple 250 Gig hard drive won't be able to handle all those games, plus saves, plus dlc, plus movies, plus music, plus pictures, plus account data, etc...

On the PC, direct to drive download services work great because we have huge hard drives AND most of us can fit more than one in our computers. I myself have room for 6 hard drives alone, and I'm only using a mid-sized tower.
