Imagine an Fantasy RPG Open-world game but instead of First-Person or third-person, instead it was a 3D side-scroller (not like LBP, no multilayers, which in a sense it is third-person...).

It would have real-time combat, you could do anything in the world like oblivion/Gothic (more Gothic though) and all of that stuff but it would be a side-scroller. Also with local (one-screen or two screen possibly) co-op and online co-op.

May not be the most original idea but I think it would be kind of cool if done right.

Please say why... (since I forgot to do a poll...)

So, it's Little Big Planet, only with monsters and stuff? I know you're trying to say it wouldn't be, but that's all it is. Grantedly, if done right, I'd certainly hop on the bandwagon.

well not with the multi-layer but a similar idea of side-scrolling.

Perhaps... any convention can work if the final implementation results in an enjoyable experience.

Reminds me of Zelda 2 in a way, updated with Street fighter 4 esque graphics.

how would it be different from Maple Story? Which, by the way, is even mmorpg.
Maple story is 2D, not open world, cartoonish, MMORPG.

This game would be 3D, Open World, more realistic but not totaly, Single-player with local and Online Co-op.

Would it be one of those 2.5 D games that Yahtzee did a review on once? Cause those were cool, and I would play.

How do you have a open world side scroller? By their very nature side scrollers are already quite restrictive in terms of level design.
You don't make a linear game, make multiple paths (going to another zone by walking into the background so to speak)

Couldn't really say, never played Diablo, once, but a very very long time ago. Played games that are similar though...

So then it would be like one of those games with the multiple planes? Or you mean like paths shooting off each other at 90/45/30 degree angles or whatever? The first one has already been done and sounds kinda lame, the second would be a pain in the arse to navigate.

No it would be a single-plane, look at this screenshot for the game Maple Story

See the tree with the hole in it next to the monkey? You are able to go into that tree, from that way. Single-layer. Thats how it would be.
