Would you ever let people roast you?

Fuck yes... It will be the closest I can get to almost dying of an asthma attack not caused by my self-ignorances...

Other than that, I better be called out on my policy on me wearing suits and/or dresses... because I'll slay the latter like a dragon!

I roasted Marter here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.382357-Redlin5s-40000-Special-The-Escapist-Roast-of-Marter]. As for myself? I get roasted by my friends regularly, its called talking to them. :p

Oh heeeeeeell naw.

I don't mind when my friend poke fun at me from time to time. God knows I do it to them sometimes.

Hell, I'll even tolerate one friend call me an imbecile after my trust and naivete and emotionalness and goofyness fucks up a board/card game about deception and totals his carefully plan to beat us all and handing the win to the guy who was already in the lead, and making victory impossible for me too as a result. XD

But having a dedicated event for a good hour where people get to make fun of me? Yeah, that doesn't sound like my idea of fun. I wouldn't even want to roast any of my friends. I have mostly nothing but compliments for them.

Just not my thing.

My friends and family already do that all the time. And I...don't really like it, honestly.

I can't do it 'in good humour.' Maybe that's the Asperger's speaking but getting roasted simply hurts. And I can't really return the favour because I can't really stay within the line there apparently is with this thing. A line I fail to even see. It's really annoying.

Depends on how clever the...roaster...is? Chef? What's the title here?

I laugh at myself all the time, but direct insults have mixed results. Sometimes I nod and laugh along. Most times I groan. Sometimes it sticks much longer than it should.

If I know who's doing it, and they're damn funny? Maybe.

Absolutely. I see nothing wrong with people making fun of me for about an hour or so as long as it's all in good fun. Now, I wouldn't be any good myself roasting other people, because I'm too nice and not funny, but if others want to roast me and they all like me, then I see no reason why not. Plus, being roasted would mean that I've done enough with my life that others recognize me, meaning I've done a lot of good (or bad) in my life.

Give that 90% of my humour is centred around roasting myself (with the rest being 5% dark shit, and 5% dick jokes) I don't really have an issue with others doing it to me. Either it's true, in which case it's funny and I know it already, or it's not, in which case it won't really get to me. There's plenty of things people could make fun of me for, but I don't have anything that's so awful that it'd genuinely hurt if someone brought it up, so I'm in a pretty good sweet spot for roasting purposes.

Would I be able to handle it? Yes.

Am I already a sarcastic asshole, with a bunch of other sarcastic assholes for friends? Yes.

Would I want to actually host a formal roast? Not likely.

Just as I am not a huge fan of small talk, or formal/stuffy dates, forcing social interactions on to myself just does not fit in with my personality type. I would rather my roasts be an incidental, fluid thing.

Well, I have before, but I'll admit it was kinda uncomfortabl-

oh. Comedy Roast. Not the... uhhhh... anyway...

No, not really. Not because I'd be insulted or hurt or anything, but just... it's not my kind of humour? Also because roasting always goes for the low-hanging fruit, and I just know someone's going for the homosexuality angle.

I'm notoriously thin-skinned. I can take a bit of good-natured ripping for a while before I snap like a lapband at an All You Can Eat restaurant.

So while I could sit there and smile for the first couple of people, by the time it came to CarrotTop I'd be ripping his misshapen head from his body.

I'm one to say that if you can't take being roasted by friends/family/peers, then you may honestly take life way too fuckin' serious and really need to lighten up before you have a stroke or cardiac event.

On that note: I can take shit from all sides because I know my own failings, but I also know my own self-worth.

I wouldn't. Frankly I find the idea of roasts pretty meaningless nonsense. My life is mine and I rarely choose of my own volition to share most aspects of it with friends or family. People should have secrets and masks. Only way to make them meaningful is if others are not sure of the person beneath is flesh or another aspect that can infer nothing more than the one you're seeing.

No such thing as a personal and professional life. Merely a whole lot of public faces and private sides. Roasts seem counter-intuitive to maintaining a healthy veil of mysteries. People can't hurt you if they never know which friends you might have. Seems like a strategic faux pas to have a public examination of your life.

Now a manufactured public roast with actors, speckled with real friends... that might be useful. Keeps everyone guessing.

I'll be honest, I came in thinking this was gonna be about an entirely different kind of roast. One I'm not quite open enough to try as the receiving partner.

I always found it strange that at just about every wedding I've been to, the best man roasts the groom, but no one roasts the bride. Is it because she's a woman it's assumed she can't hack it or something? Anyway, I thought it seemed like fun. As long as they're clever about it and not just like "Manic has a big nose and smells like dog shit because she never showers," I can't see myself getting up in arms. And even then, sad but true, y'know?

I was expecting a sexual theme with that title, am vaguely relieved to find it is not the case.
Naughty! Naughty! Naughty! What do you take me for? A high sexually charged sex freak with strange fetishes who talks about or implies sexual things way too much in these forums? If the answer is "Yes" then you are correct. I just haven't heard about that kind of... roast... in a long time.

This thread was brought to you by a Para. Expect the expectedly unexpected.

That's because it's her day, and she will murder you if you try to make her look bad. Yeah it's her soon to be husband's day too but the bride is fully in control.

Which sounds a lot like assuming the bride can't hack it. It if were my special day I'd want a funny, memorable speech made about me, not some generic "You sure do look pretty!" bullshit.

Probably not.
Some teasing here and there, yeah, sure, my friends and family do it all the time but maybe someone might choose to tease somethin' that really hurts, don't know what it would be but you never know.
