I'm probably the only person here going to say this, but I've give my life for anyone. Even my own enemies. Why? Dunno. I just would.

I'd risk it for any of them, sacrifice it for none.

After all, if I die, wheres the guarantee that the rest of em won't just die anyway?

For my little sister definitely, for another young child I hope would be able to, for anyone-else currently sorry no-can-do. I don't really want to die unless I'm sure it would be worth it, I value my life a lot.

In your example: No. Not my life for a random stranger. Probably. I might. Family? Probably. Friends? Yes. But not because of how much I vaelue them - more because I would never be able to live with the guilt of knowing I could have saved them, anyway.

In general? Apparently I am willing to die for random strangers. At least, I was when I attempted to sign up for the U.S. Army. Granted, I was eventually disqualified for medical reasons, but I didn't know that when I first tried, so I guess - at least then - I was willing to die for people I didn't know.

Also in general: yeah. I'd probably be willing to die for anyone else to live. I don't know how their lives are going to proceed, but I do know that I haven't exactly put my best foot forward so far in life, or however that saying goes. So, might as well give someone else the chance to have a useful/ fulfilling life.

Friends and family yes for sure, stranger maybe if they were some kind of doctor or scientist that was close to curing a disease or something.

I'd give my life for any of the kids I teach at the pool. Seriously, if one of them were to almost drown, I'd happily drown myself to make sure they survive. (hopefully I won't have to though :p)
Also, my little sister. And - as much as I hate to say it - my little brother. (we don't see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, but I love him; even though I'd never say it to his face..)

I trust My best friends not to die, but if it came to that, I would at least try to make sure they survive, and I'd happily help them fight a dragon. :)

Parents I feel are supposed to give their life to save yours, not the other way around. But I think it's the same as with my friends, I'd help them with anything.

I would say "my girlfriend", but I don't have one. :p
Working on it though...

I don't know, probably not, I haven't really lived life yet and the selfish person I am wouldn't give up the chance to do so for anyone else. I should probably say my younger brother, but I can't. I suppose I might risk my life, but I wouldn't give it up. I don't believe in no-win scenarios...

Why bother? I'll just be resurrecting them if any deathly harm comes upon them.

If they can do the same, then they've got some 'splaining to do.

Completely depends on situation. Such questions make very little sense when they are out of context. In most cases the answer would be no, especially in such as the example described in OP or due to some "love" reasons since it's irrational.

There are very few I would risk my life for. Lets just say you have to be extremely important to me will I face death instead of you. My best friend I've known since childhood and my little brother. I think thats all of them.

Or should I happen to be in that life saving self-sacrifice mood, I could name a few other friends, but that's the limit. Its also very circumstancial.

a random stranger? Not a chance in hell.
a friend? Nope
your best friend? My two best friends? Yeah I would probably take a bullet for them.
a family member? Assuming its not one of the ones I want to stab repeatedly with a spork, sure.
your significant other (if applicable)? N/A

It's all very situational really. In the instance you gave, probably not... depending on the person. Random strangers or people I hate, fine. Family or close friends, I probably would.

I'm known for both my recklessness and selflessness in a bad situation. I'll often dive in to a situation if I think I'm helping and if that means risk to myself, I wouldn't care. I don't know if you'd say it was because I used to have low self-esteem, but I don't hold myself in as high a regard as I hold many others. That's not to say I wouldn't let someone die for me, or that I would rather just die... but as I said, it's situational.
