would you join a riot?

I'd protect my own property. While I would be looting and pillaging, people will be busting into my house trying to go after my valuables. Also I can keep my conscience clean and bust some looter ass.

PURCHASE (not loot) some baseball bats, lock up my apartment, ring my girlfriend and make sure she's okay, ring my boss and find out if work needed protecting. Stay away from all police and rioters as much as possible.

The cause wouldn't matter to me. There are better ways to solve problems. Rioting achieves nothing except giving a bunch of spoiled grown-up kids an excuse to act like a tempter-tantrum pulling 2 year old.

Hm... Depending on the situation I'd join it, but only if I could make sure not to get arrested, lol.

That strategy would actually decrease your chances. The last person to leg it is usually the first one to receive a beating. Getting your looted stuff home in one piece would be quite a challenge too... especially if it's heavy or you've been extra greedy and have a lot of stuff. Having actually been in a city while a riot was happening, I can say firsthand that as someone carrying looted merchandise you are a target for not only the police but everybody else too. People who loot things from stores get robbed and beaten by other looters, or business owners, or concerned citizens who hate rioters. Your only real chance of getting your new toys home is if you robbed the corner store right near where you live, in which case good luck shopping again in the neighbourhood after everything dies down.

Rioting looks like fun on the surface but it's for douchebags, really. It causes a lot of misery, people often die needlessly and the local economy turns to shit. Whenever you steal something, you might think you're getting free stuff, but you actually end up paying more because of the negative effect the theft has on the economy of where you live. You might think "oh it's just one xbox", just like it's fine for one person to shit in a river, but if everyone shits in the river, then you just have a river of shit and nobody can drink anymore - including you. It's more fun to earn toys the proper way anyway.

The police probably wouldn't want any help to do their job, civilians would just get in the way. Especially since most people don't carry around shields and batons when a riot breaks out.

I'd go far away.

A valid point Sir

*Ahem*

EDIT2: Thanks for the help, DonnyP.

I guess it would really depend on what kind of riot we're talking about. But more than likely I'd just find a place to watch, and maybe film it.

If anyone tried to mess with my stuff, I'd had to do a bit of murdering. If my stuff wasn't bothered, neither would I be.

If you want a real riot soundtrack, forget that singsongy stuff, try this:

(I still think rioting sucks though)

Mmmmyeah. Probably. But once the cops show up, BAM! I'm gone. I'll steal a few TVs and sofas on my way out though.

I'd probably stand back. I don't like intentionally causing damage on purpose and helping the police would just get me bashed.

Help the police. No asshole self-destructive pricks are going to ruin my neighborhood!

I'd look for height and/or a nice solid wall to back up against, and try and remember to take my eye away from my viewfinder to watch out for danger.

I'd keep the fuck away from the police because if you aren't in uniform you are their enemy in these situations. It is really hard to not get tunnel vision in dangerous situations. If it is a riot then they have lost control and they will be angry, wounded, scared and focused on survival and regaining control. I have seen some scary stuff at protests, police charges, capsicum spray being used with no warning, dogs, pressure point holds, and these were not riots.

Once I filled my CF card, or if it got really dangerous, (firearms being used) I'd be out of there.

but it it was banning 4chan I would help the police
Still I can attest that yeah you can get caught up in a riot, but you're best just avoiding the action all together.

Considering the size of this town, I really wouldn't be too concerned. Now if I lived in Vancouver and got stuck in a riot...

I think I'd follow your advice.
I was in Seattle when the Mardi Gras riots broke out. Thankfully they where not as large as the WTO riots a few years before, but you really didn't want to get in the way of the police at the time.

flangleelgnalf said:
yes, but only so i can steal stuff without being caught
Yeah cause avoiding bullets and getting your head bashed in is preferable to not being a dishonest and actually paying for the products you use. Not to mention the possibility of having a criminal record, and or dying. Both those things kind mess up your life a bit.

Want to know what happened to bystanders who tried to help people during the Mardi Gras riots? Some of them where killed, most of them where beaten.

I usually advocate helping people, but riots are as special kind of madness, once people get caught up in it then you will find it's much better for your health to just avoid being near them if at all possible.

Edit: I found some pictures for you all to look at if you wish.
