Would you live in the past?

I doubt I would want to live in the past. Maybe take a visit to the 80s or something, but I wouldn't stay.

I'd go back to several different wars that America's participated in, see firsthand how much combat's changed. I'd prefer to bring weapons along with me, since lots of battles would be different if I could take someone out from hundreds of yards away when everyone else has to get within spitting distance.

Fuck the past. I'd rather live in the future. People lived short, brutal lives 100-200 years ago and the human race is just barely now breaking free from the constraints of our own biology via life-extension medical technology. The last thing I'd want to do is live in an era where 18-year olds are considered middle-aged.

Say time travel were possible through some scientific means, or some supernatural means, or however you want to explain it to yourself. You can come back to this time period. Would you want to go into the past?

And if so, which place would you want to "live" in, or try to assimilate into for a while? Where would you visit? And where would you absolutely avoid?

Edit: You'd have all of your vaccines, and could get other immunizations before you go.

I would, back to the 1980s to be specific. See the Reagan years(for better or for worst), experience the Thrash Metal movement, and watch everyone high on cocaine.

I'd use my jaded, 21st century attitude to fuck with people, but you can do that with any time period.

Would be interesting to visit aristocratic Victorian or Edwardian society. Wear the clothes and attend some fancy parties as well as see dickens and some great scientific minds at work.

I'd only go back to earlier within my own timeframe, and even then, no more than a couple of years back both because the past is kind of terrible compared to now, and because I could collaborate with my past self or something to paradoxically improve my grades and stuff.

I'd love to live in the future though.

I wouldn't mind visiting a bunch of time periods, but I wouldn't want to live there. I assume it'd be a bit like sight seeing a rerun of history, rather than being able to change anything.

I'd probably visit ancient Greece. It would be pretty cool to see all of the philosophers and thinkers that have inspired us even to present day.

Nah, so many things we take for granted nowdays are comparatively recent.

We'd not be using this internets thing a few years back, for one, and missing that would be the least of your problems.

Not to mention social problems. If you're not the right gender, race, sexuality, religion etc etc for where you end up...not much fun.

As a former history major i have to say ABSOLUTELY NOT.

There are so many small things and many big things that we take for granted in todays world. For example the types of freedoms we enjoy today did not exist for the most part until the late 18th century.

Go back 100 years and there are no organized police only sheriffs and military

Women are treated like crap

Rampant corruption and cronyism in government (way worse than it is today)

Deplorable healthcare

The farther back you go the worse it gets.

Hell no, I wouldn't live there permanently.

I like being able to bathe everyday and heated water and my computer and cars.

But it would be live living a dream if I could hop and explore every part of the Ancient World up until the Middle Renaissance Era.

Oh, just to have the chance would be incredible.

That's the time period I'd be all about visiting. Hopefully I could "become" a senator and just kind of hang out and do aristocratic Roman stuff.
