After playing MW2 I think I have the basic experience to be able use the firearms and technology used to be a soldier in these times, I even know quite alot of the terminology and such... Foxtron Cheerio Unitard Kilt, it's pretty simple stuff.

Hell no. My camping expertise might get me a few kills and I'm rather accurate with a rifle, but that's about it.
I'm pragmatic, used to taking/following orders and (so I've been told at times) a competent leader. I can speak publicly very well, and work best when under immediate pressure, ironically enough. (When under long-term pressure, I procrastinate.)
...On the other hand, I have genuine ADHD (actually diagnosed and treated) and actually would have joined the US Armed forces if not for the medication I was on at the time (my idiot-score was lower than average I guess. ASVAB, was it? My high school had one of our classes take it).
So with some work, I might have been a good candidate for military service. Those days are well-past now. I'm a different person now.

I think I saw someone earlier sat that good soldiers are trained. Well, Yeah, they are, check out the Royal Marines, or the US Marines, for that matter. However, if a good soldier isn't born, why is it the case that only 3 in 100 hundred get the green beret, or 1 in fifty get to join the SAS? The military is an elitist club.
Oh, and yes, if you've never seen the Royal life Guards, Look them up. The horses are obsolete but try looking at a Challenger II and saying that bearskins look ridiculous.

No one really knows how well they're gonna act in a firefight until it happens- I have a buddy in the Marines and he says everyone needs an A, B and C plan- and that Plan A and B usually go out the window within 5 seconds of gunfire.
It's much more of a psychological workout, he says. Not to mention that, to hear him tell it, the Snipers/Recon guys go a little Colonel Kurtz sometimes- doesnt sound very awesome.
Those in my family or friends that have been in the military have said being a good Soldier/Sailor/Marine depends on being able to understand the mind game right away. That and the military is a big, big system that's ridiculously organized, not everyone is particularly front-line or even infantry, like NPCs in CoD. Military is just like any other job, most of the time. Also best to not take things personally 95% of the time, when they in fact, are just orders and the like. Still considering enlisting in the Navy, myself.

Really? That's insane, all through training we carry 5. If you're a gunner, you carry 1000 rounds of link, 400 per pouch and 200 in the gun (7.62 or 5.56 depending of your gun), sucks hard being a mag58 gunner and having to carry all that ammo, but if you're lucky your no.2 is assigned to carry some of it.Goodluf said:
