Would you pay to post?

Someone quoted me and said, "if it wasn't free, I'd probably spend a nickel on it, so it's not totally worthless" and it got me thinking: what if to post on this or any other forum you had to pay to create threads and post? Let's forget that the internet has been free most of its life and assume that all forums now cost money, as that's the only way I won't get, "I'd move to another site" replies. What worth do you think a post is? What worth do you think a thread is? What rate would you pay a month in a package that included a plan just like texting, for example, "unlimited posting and thread making for $5.99 a month"?

What content would you demand if you had to pay?

This is what I would demand if I had to pay:

-Rapid and Active Moderation with the community able to have a say in their employment or termination by petition.
-The option for large signatures
- Emoticons
-large avatars
-The option to turn off those last three
- High quality and active content constantly being created
- User settings galore that can tailor the site's colors and layout to preference
- User generated content and usergroups with support pretty much exactly like this site has
-no advertisements
All for... I'd think it'd be acceptable at about $8 a month or so.

i think posts are worth about a half penny and a thread might be worth about a nickel like that guy said. there could be more plans other than some flat rate.

I don't think I could afford to pay per post...but for this site, I'm already paying $10. Anything more I'd have to think about for a while.
If they ever do decide to make it a mandatory thing to pay for posting privileges, I'd hope it was under $5. Anything more is rather obscene to me.

Well, I joined the Publisher's Club. So I suppose I like the Escapist enough to pay $10 for a year of it. (or $20 next year and all those following). Honestly, I would have probably willingly donated that to the Escapist anyway. I really like this site. I just treat the extra features PubClub membership entitles me to as an added bonus.

I would probably end up paying. I like this place too much to just give it up. There would probably need to be some improvements though.

If I didn't pay for MMOs(my favorite genre), why would I pay for this asinine crap(aside from allowing advertisements)? I'd swear off all forums.

If I HAD to pay because someone got me a subscription as a gift, I'd say I'd demand unlimited posting, 5% post count interest, and a 2 year drivetime warranty.

I don't mind donating, i don't mind optional subscription fees but i wouldn't be able to stand having to pay to go on forums, i'm sure regardless of the clause about all forums costing someone would find a way around, heck i'd even put my horrible skript-kiddie 'talents' to use making a forum(and then pay for hosting etc, which would somewhat go against the point)

Nope, I'd never pay for a forum. Ever. It just seems to be pointless. Why would I pay so I can just talk to a bunch of random people?

Spending money to post on a forum is very very bad . I would leave forever. I don't pay to do anything on the interwebz. Period.

no. look at the number of posts some people have. that's a fair whack of money spent. i don't believe people would spend that much on something like posting

I like this place, and some of you lot as well. Enough to pay? No not really. Sorry.

I do like socializing, and a lot of the user generated content is a decent read, but that's part of the problem, I am paying for access to a site that only has non professional level user generated content available with minimal to no tools available creating very exceptional level content.

I'm allready paying for broadband, Why should i pay again?

So.. Nope.
Your ISP doesn't own the entire internet. Sorry your statement just tripped my faulty logic sensor. You buy a car, but that doesn't entitle you to a lifetime supply of gasoline. You pay for a plane flight, then have (as is the case with many now) to pay for a meal on it. Why should you think that you paying for the ability to access other machines over the worlds largest network means that the people that own those machines can't then charge you to connect to their machine?

Saying I want to give my 5 cents on a topic shouldn't literally mean I'm paying 5 cents to speak.

I'm not so much an attention whore that I would pay to have people listen to what I say.
Feeedom of speech!!! ......for a price
