Would you prefer a virgin or no?

Ok, this is an honest question and ever since I heard two guys arguing about this in my Chemistry class once, I've actually wondered what guys' takes are on this.

In a hypothetical situation, would you prefer that your girlfriend was a virgin or not (so, before you've slept with her)?
If she's not a virgin, she's been with people before and at least has a little bit of "experience." Not to the extent of being borderline slutty, mind you, but enough to know what she's doing.

I suppose this question can apply to girls too, as their take could be interesting, so for the girls on here, would you prefer it if your boyfriend was a virgin or no?

So, which would you prefer and why?

NOTE: I'm talking about it from a relationship stand-point, not a one-night stand!

I'd say... yes, I'd favour a virgin. Part of a whole abstinence-until-marriage religious ideal; I think I'd prefer it if my eventual partner followed the same path, at least to avoid clashing ideals.

I've already had a virgin - they really aren't all they're cracked up to be. If I was looking for good sex (which I am), I'd pick the girl with experience. The only thing worthwhile about your partner being a virgin is that, when you do sleep together, there will be a lot of emotional significance, since that was the "first time" and all.

Then again, I think sex is always going to be an emotionally significant experience if you actually care about the person you're sleeping with, regardless of how many times they've had sex in the past. So yeah, I'm going with the experienced one. That way, the sex is (most likely) going to be more enjoyable for both parties, and you don't have to deal with any of that awkward crap which accompanies most virgins.

My girl is a virgin and thats how I like her . Reason: the whole first time and she's picked me signifigance. Experience is gathered over time and imo is part of the fun

I guess it depends on whether or not its on one night stand or not. With a relationship you (assuming you're the 'experienced' one) have more patience and will dedicate time to building up a sex life with her.

While its true that virgins don't normally know what they're doing (unless they paid attention in porn class like i did), I'd much rather have one for a one night stand that a girl who will do such a thing regularly. Working in a hospital I've seen my fair share of diseases and its my hope that I'm never one of those people.

EDIT: I don't condone porn as a sex ed tool, but it does help to learn interesting positions and techniques.

A gal who's still just lvl 1? Being the one who levels her up and shows her the ropes, that can be kind of fun as well.

Up until fairly recently I would have said yes. Now I say no. There aren't many nice girls around my age who are virgins anyways, though I have recently discovered that I'd prefer someone with a bit of experience.
All in all, it's pretty far down the list of things I look for in a girl so I wouldn't really be too fussed.

I've had both, and to be honest, the non-virgins were always more fun. There's no awkwardness, no complications, no first time jitters, no pain etc.

Probably not actually. I've had no experience and lack confidence so I would most likely prefer somebody who had done it before.

Personally though, if I really liked her and a relationship got to that stage anyway, I'm not sure that I'd really care.
