I wouldn't push it. I'd disassemble it and figure out what the button does, and possibly reverse any negative effects it might have on me onto the installers of the button.

Push it.

I'ts simple, there would not be a button there if it did great harm to press it. Pushing the button would most likely only cause a slight disturbance to the building staff.

Thus, push and run like hell.
