Well I was leaving the mall the other day, and it's the holidays, (kinda) so they put up all the Christmas decor and sales and all that, and my sister brought up that she thinks Christmas is over rated. She brought up how people will only care about getting presents, and greed and all that shit. That was kinda interesting to me. Would you still enjoy Christmas if their were no gifts? Would you still enjoy the entire later part of December?

Edit: Yes you still get out of school. A regular Christmas day; just without presents.

Video related, somehow....

One very important question: Do schools still let out for a fairly long winter break? If so, then yes, I would still enjoy it. Otherwise, no, I wouldn't enjoy it any more than any other part of the year.

I still get time off, I get to have a laugh with my family and get thoroughly drunk while binging on food, so yeah there's still things to enjoy. So unless your family happen to drive you up the wall, I don't see why you wouldn't get some enjoyment out of Christmas.

With the break, I wouldn't enjoy it as much. I depend on it for some free stuff and my money until my birthday.

It would be a great deal less stressful without the presents. Hell, I'd almost enjoy it more!

Most of what I enjoy about Christmas is spending some time with family and eating way too much. The presents are nice, but most of what I gain from them is the look of joy on my 5 year old sister's face as she opens hers.

Also, there's been snow the last few years, and snow is cool.

Have you seen The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (NOT the one with Jim Carrey! - the animated classic)? Kinda the whole idea is that Christmas doesn't come from a store, or from gifts, or from pretty decorations, and feasting, and material crap - it should be about being together with the people who matter to you and being good and - if you happen to be religious it's supposed to be about the birth of a savior that will later be nailed to a rather large piece of wood at some point.

So, yes, still enjoyable without presents (and I know from experience on that note).

honestly, I don't like it all that much even WITH the presents. and your sister is right.
I agree! I don't celebrate any set holidays, as they are all commercialised, and any meaning for them is either lost, or totally irrelevent nowadays! Instead I celebrate achievements as they happen. Instead of Birthdays, I celebrate promotions, or a good day of work, or the purchase of a new car, or returning home after 6 months away. They have much more meaning to me! Christmas is just a way for business to make suckers spend tonnes of money, and for people to have multiple dissapointing awkward meetings with family they don't care less to see!

Since Christmas is pretty much only about presents, there wouldn't be any point without them.

Up until the age of....13 or something, I had never seen christmas as a holiday where you'd get gifts. Seemed rather strange to me back then. :p

Got some days off, I live in an area of annual snow, turn on some Boomerang for Hanna-Barbara Christmas specials, I'm content. Even as a kid, going to downtown Chicago with kin, hanging up decorations with the folks and the two weeks days off made it epic as it was. Though I'm not gonna lie, the presents didn't hurt, ha, ha.

But, ya know, I gotta fill my internet buzzkill quota, so: Rant, rant, commercialism, businessmen, greed, cynisism.

Of course I would! Christmas would still be awesome because I still get to have a break from school, AND spend quality time with my relatives. Not getting presents may be a bit of a bummer, but that's what birthdays are for.

I guess the break from school is more important than presents for some.

guess it's going to suck when you have to graduate and get to the real world.

<- Atheist. I'm only in it for the holiday and the presents. In fact, I should totally start celebrating the Islamic and Jewish holy days too, just for more of the fun.

Considering the heavy commercialization is one of the reasons I hate the holiday, I'd say much more so.

Fuck yeah, I'd still enjoy it! For me, it's mostly parties and drinking alot. I usually get presents I don't really care for anyways.

Both for the religious significance and the family time spent together I would still partake in Christmas. The presents are nice but not a prerequisite for a holiday. Hell, the traditional Christmas brunch and card games are almost as fun as unwrapping presents anyway.
