Would you still play a game if the protagonist, antagonist or favourite character in the game was gay?
State the game, the character and a yes or no.
The character could be lesbain also but don't say yes because you think it would be hot if the main character lesbain.

For me yes infact it would maybe make it more reason to play the game because then atleast the character would be interesting instead of generic spacemarine.

Being gay doesn't change how well you fire a gun in an COD does it.

So my answer is yes because it doesn't make a blind bit of difference whether the main character is gay or not.

Yes, as long as it wasn't the one characteristic that defines him/her, they'd need a good background and personality (Which for the record with a requirement of mine for all characters gay/straight). For example if it's a hardbitten and cynical private eye in a noir science fiction future who investigates crimes in Old New York and lives his male life partner who is a bi-polar painter in a run-down loft, with a clunky robot butler. That game I'd play.

As long as the game wasn't marketed as "The game where the main characters is GAY! Play it now on Xbox360" Because that would just feel like they were pandering to a crowd.

But if they developed a genuine character in a game that also was gay, I wouldn't mind I think. It all depends on what sort of game it is though. I mean some games are all about "you being the character" and it would feel weird if "I" had to be gay, without a choice in the matter.

But if lets say Cloud in Final Fantasy VII was gay? Sure that could work... although it would loose out on the fun of the dating "mini game" prior to golden saucer.

So depending on type of game it can work out.

It depends on the game genre. If it was something like a fixed story FPS where we have no choice over our character then yes I would as it would provide interesting new character interactions so long as it was done well.

If it was an RPG or some such, where the game is designed to be a blank or fairly blank slate for you to enforce your personality on then no as a forced personality trait would spoil the immersion, especially one that was alien to me that I couldn't as easily relate to.

It's all about relating to the character, and how important the immersion is.

You know you can go on a date with Barrett, right? :D

I wouldn't mind playing a game with a gay protagonist of either gender. In fact, I would probably play it just for that reason, because it's out of the ordinary.

I don't think that it really matters. How many games make it clear what sexuality the protaganist is anyway? If you wanted, you could play the vast majority of games and imagine that the main character is gay, and it wouldn't actually make any difference to the story or gameplay

Unless there's a love interest involved of course. But even then, just imagine them as the same sex and there you go

So long as his sexual preferences aren't the focus of the story, but rather an interesting feature of his personality, then sure, why not?

I would; like everyone else has said though, I would hate the game if his/her sexuality was beaten over my head the whole time or used as some asinine selling point. There are many, many things that define a person besides their sexuality after all.

I wouldn't play Duke Nukem if he was gay. It defeats the purpose of a proudly misogynistic protagonist.

I would play Bioshock if he was gay. It makes no difference.

Yup been there done that. Although my favorite is still Yuffies Date, its so awkward (and also the only girl that kisses Cloud)

Hmm as many others have written sexuality does not matter in a game.. but to answer your question

One of the main characters from GOW.. and only because it is such a "macho" game
