Would you trust Sony with alternate universe Spider-Man stories?

It's a done deal that Peter Parker is part of the MCU, and fans couldn't be happier. Sony still makes the movies, but now Marvel keeps a close eye on them and ensures that everything Sony does lines up with what they have planned in the future. But unless Marvel made another deal that permanently transferred all of Spidey's rights to them, I'm pretty sure all of the Spider-Verse is technically under Sony's wing.

However, what if as a way do make more Spider-Man films w/o worrying about the MCU, Sony was allowed to make Spidey-spin off movies that address the alternate universes. What if we got Emma Stone back as Spider-Gwen? Maybe a movie with Miles Morales and his rogue's gallery that's independent of Peter's? Maybe some Spidey 2099 or Spidey Noir? Perhaps this could be a way for Sony to flex their creative muscle independently of Marvel's big plans.

So would any of you out there trust Sony with AU Spider-Verse movies, or did they screw the pooch enough already that only Marvel should be taking the reigns?

I don't trust Sony's film division with anything at this point. And the two Amazing Spider-Man films were so bad that I'd rather Sony just not do anything related to the property on its own.

Frankly I wouldn't trust Sony or Marvel with Spider-Man. The former company will obviously be crippled by Marvel's demands[footnote]Even if they weren't, they would cripple themselves with mass-appeal bollocks like they did with the terrible "Amazing Spider-Man" films[/footnote], the latter will make a serviceable, if incredibly bland, superhero film that's more series maintenance than anything worth watching.

Hell, I don't know who I'd trust with him. DC don't know what they're doing, and Fox are good but I don't think I can trust them with non-X-Men products.

So to sum up the all the Superhero movies suck in various degrees?

So just stick with reading good Comic Books and, in DC's case, good Animated Movies?

All superhero movies have great potential to suck - so does any movie really. But I think Spider-Man in particular is just in a check mate scenario. I've loved films from all these companies, but at this point in time Spider-Man is screwed.

Keeping the likes of Kurtzman, Orci, and Vanderbilt out of writing the story and script would be a small step in the right direction toward Sony getting back my trust with the character. I see those names attached to anything Spider-Man related and I skip it on principle.

Screen-writer choices aside; so long as Marvel is around to hold Sony's hand, I really don't care anymore what they do regarding Spider-Man movies. I think both parties are going to play it safe in regards to Peter Parker and I don't really like what Marvel Studios has planned for Spidey in Civil War and beyond. Whatever Sony does that ties into the MCU is not something I'm very enthusiastic about.

If they go the alternate universe route, and depending on what they do, I might be more interested. Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales aren't characters I much care for, so I wouldn't see a movie about them. On the other hand; Spider-Man Noir, Steampunk Lady Spider or Indian Spider-Man would get my attention.

Sony shouldn't even look at Spider-Man 2099 right now. Spider-Man 2099 is my favorite Spider-Man and I would like to see the character on the big screen one day, but I want it as part of a whole Avengers-style 2099 franchise. Marvel, Sony, and Fox would have to come together and make some kind of multi-studio arrangement before that happens.

Well I'll like to see what Marvel does with the Spiderman character. I'm ultimately happy Sony last casted a rather funny and nerdy character for the last pair of movies. Unlike Toby who was a bit too serious for the role. I'm skeptical of what Marvel will do with their movies that involve Spiderman. But Sony can't keep rebooting the series or risk hurting the Spiderman brand for some time.

Super hero movies always have a chance of sucking nowadays with excessive use of CGI and effortless stories and scripts. It doesn't necessary have to be becaue of one bad studio. But when there's an attempt to wow people with special effects, the budget may be devoted to making a pretty movie and ultimately lack depth. Potential attempts to widen the audience with events or things that are inconsistent with the comics can also backfire.

Honestly? I didn't think Amazing was all that bad. I would have preferred to not have another origin story for Spidey, but I had fun with the movie.

The second, on the other hand...bleh. Trying to handle 3+ villains in one movie, launch spin-offs, handle one of the most formative moments in Pete's young career, etc. What a mess.

OT: I would like to see a Miguel O'Hara story. I'd probably give it a shot if Sony did it, but I'm not hugely optimistic.

I'm still on the fence about what Marvel can do with him, and I actually enjoy the majority of their films.

I hate both of them, so yeah. The second is worse, though.

Well in the first trilogy Spider-Man had bio-webshooters, went to high school with Mary Jane, and has no personality beyond being a nerd/dork. In the Amazing movies he stole his webbing from Oscorp, went to high school with Gwen Stacy, and was a male model. I had just always assumed that Sony was doing alternate universe stories.

Wow, a warning for making a joke (at no one who'll ever read its expense) - a full five days later, great mod work there, great work, especially "low content" given it's three times the length of both posts above and below.

Speaking of low content, I'm done here, the LoadingReadyRun guys, MovieBob, Top5, Extra Credits, Honest Trailers, my avatar, there's only one show left worth watching and lets face it, these forums are done, when making a (admittedly lame) joke is worthy of a warning but I can make hateful and misogynist comments so long as I aim that at some imaginary enemy.

Done with this place, seemingly as most of the rest, adios.

[edit] just noticed that's a month off a full eight years membership, hadn't realize I'd been watching you circle the drain for so long...

You do realise low-content isn't determined by post length right? It's about how much is added to the discussion and just going "Hahaha" doesn't really add anything.
