I'd like to be a spy, but not for my whole life. And I don't care that the James Bond-type spy isn't too common... that's the kind of spy I want to be.

Yes, if spying obeys the James Bond school of spy tactics, meaning foreign places, fancy gadgets, awesome cars, and plenty of sex with unnaturally attractive people.

How many times do I have to tell you? Spies don't exist in real life. Now would you kindly fetch me those corporate blue prints and go back to sleep?

No. Sounds like too much work and I wouldn't like being a tool for any cause I don't believe in.

sorry to burst your bubble (assuming you weren't being sarcastic) but real spy work is the complete opposite of what bond films portray, real spy work is staying in an office going over document after document getting progressively fatter on a diet of take aways donuts and coffee, driving bog average run of the mill cars, the only 'gadget' you get is a commemorative biro (as hardly anyone knows how to use fountain pens anymore) and merely chatting with bland, unassuming, average looking people

oh and you're paid no more than any other public servant

Basically this, including the god awful 1001 rules that you have to abide by.

The James bond style spy did exist to an extent, Flemming based JB on the exploits of the SOE in WWII, however I think he probably squeezed all the excitement from the whole service into one dudes escapades.

Hmm... If I could be a spy like how Roald Dahl was a spy in America, during WW2. He basically got paid to seduce the women that had links deep into the American Government, in an attempt to draw America into the war. Apparently, he was damn good at it, too.

I am going to have to go with option 4:

It would be pretty boring considering the vast majority of spy work is done at a desk.

But if it was the kind where you had this watch that made you invisible and you had this disguise kit... and sappers.... and a knife.... and cool hats... I could totally go for that.

I've read several auto-biographies by spies from WWII and the Cold War, apparently spying involves lots of dumb luck and occasionally being arrested and physically tortured, so no.

All depends on what I had to do.

But being a spy takes lots of training I imagine.

...sure, why not?

If you had the choice would you want to be a spy? I personally think it would suck. You have to lie to all of your friends and family. You can never really settle down. High chance of death. What do you think?

Also i dont mean like a realistic spy im talking about the ones you see in movies that are obviously fake and all that.

[Edit] Why does the poll never work?
Option 1. Hell yeah! thats the life for me
Option 2. No way i couldnt do it
Option 3. What do you mean would i want to be a spy ;)
I'm not sure, I'm naturally solitary which is ideal, I'm also very fast as a thinker on my feet, and a total morally ambiguous nerd, which are desirable so I hear.

That said, I think I have enough paranoia as it is, I'd rather not expand that little bit of my psyche right now.
