Wouldn't a Fallout outside of the US not really work?

Cold War Paranoia seems to have a dinstinctly American flavor, but I think it can translate to other cultures, especially Europe. We kind of dragged everyone else in to it.

Yeah, most of the Fallout icons are non-transferrable. For any of the Fallout lore to exist in other countries we'd need a 1984 style global map, one where America expanded it's borders before the bombs fell to include places like Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Africa etc.

Fallout outside the USA would not work. Its not the resources or Vaults that make the game it is the feel. The Vaults only added some survivors into the mix, many survived just by going into a bunker or cave, or even just by not getting hit by missiles. The 40's, 50's, and early 60's had a distinct feel that you just could not replicate. Oh, and by the way, the next Fallout was already announced as an MMORPG if any of you guys even bothered to keep track.

While I don't claim to be a historian, I'm reasonably sure there were other countries in the 1950's, many of which may have had a distinct culture... Perhaps we could see how they survived (or didn't) the War. It would bring in a fresh heap of lore and a new perspective on the history of Falloutverse. I'd say Africa or South America would be an excellent choice, as there is no information on them at all in FO3.

The UK has it's own very distinct 50s culture which, come to think of it, is kind of similar to that of 50s US.

This, you'd just need to find a British equivalent to Ron Perlman.

That being said, I think the most interesting ones would be UK, China, Canada (they mentioned Ronto in F3, so I think something with that will come up eventually. I like how Canada isnt just forgotten, and has grown just as the US has, and is apparently a military powerhouse too), and maybe Russia. or not russia, ecause thats basically what metro 2083 was, except darker, creepier, and very different.

actually, sorry to burst your bubble, but in Fallout lore, Canada was violently annexed by the US shortly before the bombs fell. so... military powerhouse, not so much

OT: the Fallout Bible has assorted, but limited, information on a lot of other countries. i, for one, am a diehard Fallout fan who wouldn't mind seeing a Fallout game set elsewhere in the world. it wouldn't be the same, but that's not to say it couldn't work or it would be bad. different can still be good.

You do know they was going to make a Fallout game in Europe? (Set before the Great War, but after the European war.)

You was going to be heavy infantry of the British army, moving across Northern Italy trying to survive and maybe find a way back home. It was going to be a more action game than RPG but the creator of F2 said recently he still wants to do a spin off in Europe.

Also, you get British characters in Fallout, apparently it's pretty bad over there (and that's saying something from people on the East Coast) so it could be interesting.

Also, China wouldn't work because China is literally an irritated barren wasteland, like it got hit HARD.

Yes, but I was just saying that most of the effort being put towards the Fallout MMO to put that out before Fallout 4, as they already have a Beta sign up form.

unless something has changed, Bethesda isn't making the Fallout MMO... whatever is left of Interplay was doing that. however, i know that Bethesda was suing them over some breach of contract there, or something. so...idk. the whole situation is about as clear as mud right now.

Well since Fallout MMO is being developed by another company and produced by another (Masthead Studios/interplay) and Fallout 4 will be developed and produced by Betheseda, they probably will both come out in 2012. I also have signed up for the beta.
