MechWarrior Online.
EDIT:
you could make an MMO based on MW that wasn't about level-grinding, but more about upgrading your mech. go around doing mercenary jobs, earn credits, upgrade your mech, etc. maybe structure it like MW: Mercenaries. and i think it would have the potential to gain market share precisely because of that: the fundamental method of progression in the game is more qualitative (upgrading your mech) rather than quantitative (earning XP).
point is, MMOs are far from dead, and i hope developers take the risk of exploring different kinds of MMOs. cuz i think there are a lot of people, like me, who don't find existing MMO's very appealing. but i could see myself really getting into a MechWarrior MMO (of course, it'd be the one in my imagination..but the possibility's there).
APB's looking pretty cool as well.
