I agree with the losing his hearing thing is a bad thing and would be a shock. Like I said in a early post I think no music in my life would drive me insane (and I'm not kidding when my zune dies I start to get uneasy without music to help me think).

But it's not is guild to run, and it sounds like he can't make the final call. And since he didn't like that he fought about it and lost. And like you said we only have one side, for all we know he could have left out "And I called him a **********************, and I hope he burns in hell with his whole family" and left that out of his "story". So no it's sad he is deaf but I'm not sold on "it's sad he couldn't find a guild" when WoW is supposed to be the biggest MMO.
I know how you feel, I can't go long without music. Even when with my friends on Skype I need to have music in the background. I hope if we get more of the story we can learn what all happened, for now I think that's all she wrote...
Sadly it's true, Idk I'm a guy who needs both sides of the story. I hate not knowing the whole thing (which is why I really hate the white colony thing in US history class, about a colony who just vanished), and it bothers me to pick a side based on a unbiased story. But unless the GL wants to throw his hat in...yeah

Now, people online is a whole other story, but people in video games tend to not give two cents about someone's dissabilities, only that they can do a certain thing. It's sickening, but it's the sad truth unfortunatly.
I'm a little shocked i thought this thread would be like "dEm fuCkeRs shOuld DiE" but all im hearing is tough luck move on, a little support for the guy would be nice, people you call friends for 4 years stab you in the back and most people would be pissed at least and in his place they'd feel the same. If this was a real job then he could have sued their arse for discrimination but as its a game its acceptable for them to be dickheads about it. I'm the last person who should be saying this but these people need to sort their priorities out. Also they should grow a fucking conscience. I'm begining to believe the stereotypes that most wow players are sad, unsociable retards because of this. I hope this guy found a guild willing to take him in, if i played wow i would try seeking him out and offering help not shunning him like a leper.

Disgusting. The 'it's just a game' reasoning is no excuse to be a complete swine to another, especially after said person had just lost something as vital as his -hearing-. Solitude is a harsh thing to experience, and because of this accident, as he explained, he has been nearing.

Hopefully that guild leader has him self a nice, lengthy ban. And here's to hoping this poor fella finds him self a far better circle of friends.
The Guild Leader did nothing wrong, it's his guild it's his call. And we don't know what the fight that lead to him being kicked was about in detail.

You know that's why some companies don't wanna hire people who disabilities sometimes. Because they are a walking lawsuit, and if they were to try anything fear of being sued would happen because (in the US at least) we are sue happy and could easily throw discrimination around to get a easy win. Also the deaf kid did post other guilds didn't want him so...what about them, or the fact the kid and the guild master had a blow out which lead to him being blocked.

RPGs (and MMORPGs especially) aren't about quick exciting thrills and violence. It's a progressive experience that builds and builds as your character does. As you learn more and more about the world and what populates it you become attached to it and your character. It isn't about a single battle with a giant rat in the forest or something, you need to take the game in it's entirety before you can have a genuine opinion of a MMORPG. For something with a much clearer feedback might I recommend anything on a games console.

As someone with the word 'Jew' in there name I'm sure you'll understand brother. :p

Edit:What closing arguments, you saps up in arms for the deaf kid won't change your mind on the subject. And I love that title, way to twist facts because his post from the events that he stated was
1)Told his old guild he was deaf and going do vent
2)Told he couldn't raid
3)Fought about it
4)Was banned
Haha! I'm a little surprised to see you've added me as a friend after all this. But, actually I just kept the title of the original post, in case someone else had already beaten me to it. I'll admit, yeah I'm a bit of a sap for a bleeding heart story like this, but ya know? I wouldn't change the way I am for you or anyone else. Soooo I'm a bit of a softie, oh well.

Edit: Ah hell, hah, didn't see this:

Yes, I agree completely, I know it seems hypocritical with the whole conversation but I have been repeating multiple times I do need the whole story, but still with what I have I have indeed started a little leaning towards the deaf WoW player. So, like I said above: I'm a softie I suppose.

I think I mentioned this before, but "history is written by the victor". I think we can both say that, unless the GL is coming out with something, our victor has written the story.

I don't know how WoW has changed since BC, but when I was new to raiding, Vent was not an absolute necessity. My husband is deaf so he usually went without Vent as well without any issue at all; probably because they thought I was able to sign to him what was being said or *gasps* type out the actually important parts of the message. "Stay with the fighters running to where the printer sits. Spam taunts when Thisguy gets punted. Show these noobs how real tanks roll!" was all he needed. Any change in tactics would be announced a minute or ten before we got to that point, which was more than enough time to type to him whatever new tactic was going to be used. Being kicked because nobody's willing to be a real friend and shorthand whatever had to be said just shows how pixels matter more than people.

It's not nice but I can perfectly understand it.

People are entitled to take a game seriously if they want to, it's their time and money after all. And it's not like there aren't countless less strict guilds this guy can join with no problem.

Would I have kicked him if I was in the guild leaders position? I don't know, I'd probably of put it to a vote in the guild, after all it's something that would adversely affect raid performance so it's a serious issue for a hardcore guild.

"it's only a game" :- you can delude yourself otherwise if you want but life is just a game, and it ends the same way no matter how you live it I.e. Game Over. What gives you the right to judge other people for choosing to live in a certain way. Everyone in this thread who has condemned this guild leader on the basis of wow being "just a game" is xenophobic and quite frankly a prick.

This is the reason i hate the obsessed gamers playing WoW. I understand that they want to win, but when winning is so important that you take the fun of playing away from others, that's going too far.

I think people are forgetting that you can still "type" to communicate like in any other Mmorpg. I did have a read from the Wow forum where the post originally came from and typing shouldn't be a problem or at least work it out that benefit everyone in the guild.
Also to the people who say that he should just move on or it's not that bad. If you read the OP properly he said he was friend with the guild members for 4 years. Ok granted some people can still be a loner or don't socialise for that long but that fact that he did join in rl guild parties. Rl mean Real Life. With this fact I can assume they were proper friends and not internet friends.
Even still that Guild should be ashamed of them selves to do that and frankly I think he should of mention the Guild name.

I think the saying: "It's a game" can be applied here to both parties.
It would have been a game to begin with for him. But he played for 4 years, maybe longer depending when he posted that comment, he basically made friends with his guild and even met them in real life and they would have had great times with each other for 4 years. After 4 years of conversing and playing with people who you consider friends, it becomes a great blow emotionally and mentally when they remove you from the guild and ignore you because you got into a serious accident resulting in loss of hearing.

I've been trying to make that point for a while. It's not just internet, I assume they met at one point. Though I disagree with the name of the guild, I made a reply to a comment back on page 2 how that could probably cause more drama and trouble, and some people can get real personal with their attacks on people. 4Chan is the best place to look for at that sometimes. I know this is The Escapist, and not 4Chan, but Google can lead you here and frankly it could be a mess for the people who may not even know what happened.

When I played WOW (it's important to remember that I quit at level 36) I did 4 successful raids and never once was there someone with a headset.

I hope the guild leader is perma-banned.

I think the guilds reasoning for banning him is that if something goes wrong it is too hard to type because you are trying to save your own ass. To them they think he would be a burden on anyone trying to do a serious run through. Of course this doesn't justify the guilds actions.

PS I get the feeling he doesn't want to mention the guilds name because he doesn't hate them. I think he still cares for at least some of the people in the guild, and if the guilds name was released along with their actions they would be heavily ostracized.

You need to take a little of your own medicine and see that people measure their fun in different ways.
If you're measuring fun, you really aren't having any.
Except you do it all the time. Anytime you decide "this isn't fun I think I will do something else" then you have measured and weighed the pros and cons of spending your time doing what you are doing.

Catchy phrases are stupid. And wrong.

Yeah sorry about that bit of outburst about he should of mention the Guild name, my emotion got the better of me. Yeah it logical not to mention the name since anything to discredit a guild (unless it was a very bad guild) will be it downfall even though he said the guild he was in wasn't the most elite.
While it true it can be a annoying to type in the heat of battle but they could of put the effort to try to make it work after all he is their friend (well not anymore). They should of able to work it out since from the Wow forum some of them say they plan it out all before hand and do proper research on the raid. So over all they pretty much made a instruction for a deaf player to carry out during the raid.
I certainly hope someone from that guild or the leader check out that WOW OP.

You just. Don't. Get it.

There are many guilds out there that have fun by winning. Heck, basically every sporting team out there measures success by their victories. Now tell me, in a group of like minded, dedicated gamers who derive their fun by succeeding in difficult content, should every single one of them give up on this fun to accomodate for someone who is only dragging them down. In a 24 person raid, is it fair that 23 have to have no fun and watch hours of failure go by for 1 person to be included..

When a sporting team has a player with an injury so that they cannot compete, they are out.

Gods... some people... unable to look outside of their own little box that people play the game differently to them.

It's their guild and they have their rules. If he wasn't helping the guild then he is gone. If you have a job where you have to listen to something and you can't do that anymore then you shouldn't have that job. He was in a guild that used voice chat in the groups, if he can't hear then when needed he is just wasting time.
But there was a shitton of compromises that could've been made to keep this guy around in a non-vent position, or simply as a casual member. Do you really feel they were justified in shutting him out of the guild he had been playing in for 4-5 years just because he was deaf, which was entirely out of his control?

Yes because there's never two sides of a story.

From the original quote:

He tells me that i can't raid unless i have vent. Guild rules and all. I was pissed. After a huge blow out between us i get removed from the guild and put on ignore. Our guild wasn't even that good. We did naxx full clear 10 man once.
He said he couldn't raid with them because of no vent. Then they got into an argument and he was removed.
