I dont even know how they got my account email! its not like i flash it around going "HEY! heres my email! i want your crap!"

im done with my rant now. im friggin tired of this.

I haven't played for years, and my old email address gets loads of those. It also gets loads of other junk that I'm not in the market for, such as "Cheap Rolex Watches" and penile enhancement tablets of dubious origins. I doubt it has anything to do with whether you play the game or not.

Yea, I never got any of those until pretty recently. Pretty amusing that people fall for that. What do you do? People thin the herd on their own.

I do enjoy reading them though.

It doesn't. I've friends that have never played that get a ton of them. As someone who has played I get relatively few though. Seems backwards.

I have played for 5 years, I never got a single one.
I also never subscribed to some WoW related website, besides Blizzard's own.

Connection?

Your e-mail is probably everywhere. Have you signed up using it for some fan sites, guild site, maybe wowhead or elitistjerks or anything like that? Here ya go. That's where it came from. I know since i receive that spam on my e-mail accs that i set up for all the community sites, to keep my actual account clean and safe.

And the amount of it just got worse with battle.net 2.0 because now they assume that the email that they spam you with is also your login account.

I thought I was going to get a laugh about someobdy ignorantly raging at WoW... Guess not.

Yeah I still get a bunch of those, used to go to my inbox but my email got wise and put them into the junk mail. Sad that people fall for that.

While I never got any of those while I played WoW, I just got one the other day about StarCraft 2. The email right away made me think "huh, this can't be real" because it was telling me my account is going to be assigned to some other email and that I have to go logon to cancel it, otherwise it'll change. I was like... yeah, right. BS! I decided to at least see where this logon site was, and it actually looked very legit - except for my browser being like "HEY! Risky site!". Anyway, I wish I knew how they got my email.

You dont have to "flash" your email.

You can post it only once, and bots will find it.

I got a Cataclysm Alpha test "Invite" on the wrong email that I linked to my account (They sent it to my Hotmail when I signed up using my brothers Aim account). I'm not sure if they did it again, but either way, it is annoying.

I mostly just get the regular spam mail - penile enhancements, fake objects, etc. Never got any game related ones, however.

I've gotten mmorpg scam mail on email addresses never associated with any mmorpg account.

I've gotten an attempt to phish my lotro information... a game I have never even considered playing.

Its random. Entering your email address anywhere gets you on spam/scam lists eventually.

If you sign up for a guild forum, those tend to get regularly compromised. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if the WoW spam is also on harvested lists, not just off WoW sites, seeing as how so many people play the game, there's a decent chance you'll catch a handful.
Spam is ridiculously cheap to send - especially if they use other people's mail servers, so any email address will do.
If you're sending millions of mails, chances are you'll get some suckers. And the spammers like to jump on the bandwagon.

Played WoW for 3 years.

Never got a single WoW related ad in my e-mail.

I've signed up to three different guild forums as well and still not a single bit of WoW farmer junk mail.

I think you just have shitty luck friend.

I have a buddy who sends emails back to the scammers. The emails are usually carbon copies, but sometimes he makes a joke out of it.

I've never personally received one because I'm incredibly careful about who I give my email to. If I don't get a promise from the website saying they won't share my email, then I don't give it to them. This system has kept me spam free for over 6 years.
