Okay, went on Team Fortress 2 last night. I know this story isn't interestiing at the moment, but stick around, it gets better.

Now, my most used classes are Heavy, Medic, Soldier and Demoman. I prefer to be out there all guns blazing etc. But yesterday, I decided I'd try something different, something I'd refused to try up until yesterday: Sniping. Now here's what shocked me, it was pretty fun. In about 30 minutes I managed to get the first Sniper Milestone (and I haven't got any other milestone achievements). This greatly surprised me, I never thought that it'd be that fun.

So, any of you ever switched tactics in a game out of the blue and found them to be as fun, if not more?

now thats funny because i'm usually a sniper in most games i play, then one day i tried going with a heavy gunner set up and i found it quite fun. i just never really like being up close and personal with an enemy before.

Healing in World of Warcraft. I always thought it'd be dull, but, s'not bad. DPS is still where it's at though.

Wait a tick....how long have you been playing? Cuz the milestones, at least the first and second one, I got in the first week of gameplay just at random. Didn't even try....

I decided to go Monk in Guild Wars once because I got fed up with no-one helping me in team missions, and I turned out to be surprisingly good at healing.

I switched from being a swordsman in Fable to a gunman in Fable 2 and I found it both more fun and easier than the blade (cleaver specifically).

I randomly tried being a machine gunner in MW2 after being a sniper for ages, and turned out to be better at it than sniping. That's only on MW2 though, all other games I'm still the sniper.

Healing has the advantage that you actually get to watch the fight, instead of tanks who get to stare at the Boss' ankles for the whole fight. Also, it's a lot less stressful than tanking, making it my preffer role back when I played the game.

Switched from spy/engineer to Medic/pyro. I usually wipe the floor with other teams as a medic.

This is true, however I'm at a bit of confusion with roles. I like to be the one to protect and heal allies, yet I want to actually be using my weapons, or at least throwing spells.

I went 'offensive engie' in TF2 once. Dumped my sentry/dispenser etc. somewhere, then went into the enemy base wielding my trusty shotgun (and pistol). I died a couple of times, sure, but there are few things more fun than killing a sniper roughly 10 meters away with pistol ammo.

Especially since he was retreating.

I tried running and gunning in MW2 recently instead of creeeping around (I have a LOT of "Most Time Spent Crouching"awards). Not only was it fun, but I'm good at it too. Booyah!

I started playing WoW in early 2005. I only decided a few days ago to start a Paladin, as up until this point I had (and still have) a fervent hatred of Alliance Paladins in general.

Granted, my Paladin is a Blood Elf, so it's still Horde, but whatever.

I actually find it almost as fun to play as my Frost Mage.

I personally found healing to be dull when I tried it. I still prefer DPS.

I also found tanking to be boring as hell.

In MW2, I rejected assault rifles like a lonely bum on the street, but now it's my most used weapon.

Yup, went from running around shooting people to sniping; haven't gone back since. I used to be rather bad at sniping, but suddenly found I had rather a knack for it.

I swear, nothing is better than having a snipe-off with a really bad sniper or a really good sniper; the really bad one because no matter how hard he tries to get the drop on you, he is inevitably too predictable and I kill him easily (if anyone knows of the cliff face you can shoot from on the MW2 map "Afghan", you will understand how people utilising that are hilariously bad a lot of the time), and the really good ones because it's very satisfying having a tense shootout in the middle of all the fighting, which passes you by, and finally managing to get the bugger right between the eyes.

Yeah, agreed. Although all roles are good, I still prefer DPS to all. Especially tanking.

Normally I always, as a rule, play the puny mage. One day instead, I decided to create a dwarf fighter in DDO. Much to my surprise I loved it, I loved not dying in seconds if I ever tried to melee.
