I think people like them so much because of there cuteness mixed with there silly spelling. It just makes a silly combonation.

I haven't got a clue why people think they're funny. I totally hate them. Cats are not cute. And communicating badly and being smug about it isn't either.
Cats are inherently humorous animals.

The jumbled-up grammar of lolcats has its own style and rules, which makes it more than just laughing at misspelled words. From the outset, it was sorta trying to communicate something about the cat's mindset -- the simple way we imagine cats would frame their experiences and desires.
Nowadays, because of the proliferation of lolcats, a lot of the humor comes in the form of subverting the trope in various ways (AverageCats.com, for example).
