Now, we all know about sequel degradation. But what are your WTF sequels? To clarify what I mean by this I'll give my example.
and it's "sequel"
Now looking at these posters, do they even look related? Well they are (I think).
Now I loved Welcome to the Dollhouse. It's a masterpiece, showing the tragedy of real life. And it does that so well. It's normalcy is it's greatest strength, because we all have shared an experience similar to the protagonist of the experience of being rejected and striving to fit in(although on a much toned down scale).
Palindromes ate reality for breakfast and shat it out the other end. First of it's "connection" to WttDh is that the Main character is the cousin of the main cousin and the opening scene of the movie
This movie in no way shares plot or even stylistic elements of the first. The story is outlandish (and by outlandish I mean fucking weird), the way of presenting Aviva is strange (it was a neat concept, but it struck me as weird for this particular movie, and completely unnecessary for the plot)
Maybe I was prejudiced because I loved WttDh so much and Palindromes was so far removed in every way, it didn't even feel like a sequel.
And if there are any Palindromes fans out there don't yell at me for not getting the movie, I got it. And I watch a lot of really weird movies. (My favorite is True Stories for crying out loud) but to go from the hauntingly normal WttDh to, well Palindromes just left me saying WTF?
Note: This doesn't mean you didn't like the movie/book/whatever, it just left you confused with the whiplash of stylistic change.
Even though I hated Palindromes

It depicts the funeral of the main character of the first, strongly suggested she committed suicide.
