WUXGA is a desktop resolution of 1920x1200. And it's disappearing. I use a WUXGA monitor right now and I was thinking about picking up a second one for some dual view action. However, WUXGA displays have become sparse for some reason. Samsung only has 2 or 3, Gateway and Acer have just one, and Asus doesn't have any.

When I got my current monitor, it was one of the more popular resolutions, and now it's almost gone. What happened? When did WUXGA lose it's appeal?

Wut?

But seriously. 1920x1200 is just a strange resolution. I use 1280 by 768 on my laptop, and it's perfect. Anything like 1920x1200 would need a pretty large monitor, and i've seen that most people actually buy smaller and better resolution monitors than before when it was all about BIG.

I'm pretty sure thats why WUXGA lost its appeal.

I use 1440x900, and that's tough enough to find wallpapers for. 1900x1200 must be a real mission.

I meant to put Asus as the second one.

Not really. At least, not when it was popular. WUXGA screens were relatively cheap.

I wouldn't worry about it. The average is still trending upwards: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp

But the WUXGA monitor pretty much was supplanted by 1080P monitors. They're smaller!

It's because sheeple are being duped by the big HDTV hype. Everyone wants to standardize 1080p and 720p, including monitors.

Basically WUXGA is a 16:10 screen ratio. Within computers that's great and I like it. Unfortunately the electronics and entertainment world at large has historically used 16:9, which we all know and love as wide screen. 1080P monitors and TV's are 1920X1080, which is 16:9.

It's not so much a case of 1080P being better as having massive amounts of momentum behind it, it's pretty much killed WUXGA because everything except computers use or soon will use it. Faced with that screen manufacturers had a very easy cost saving decision on their hands.

However, not all is lost. If you look for high end PC monitors you will find resolutions considerably higher than 1080p, although most even here are in 16:9 now.

A lot of the time I hate having 1366x768 because it's such an awkward resolution. I either have to cope with 1280x720 or when that isn't supported, using 1024x768 and putting up with a stretched view. I wish a lot of games took resolution options from your PC, rather than a pre-defined set

The price also sky rockets on those.

But it will look so awkward next to my WUXGA screen...
I don't know what to tell you lol.
I guess you're just going to have to deal with it?
But I don't want to have to deal with it because 1080P became too popular...

Here's a life tip for you:
Nothing will ever work out how you want or go in your favour. Life is a *****, living is pain and if having two mismatched monitors is the greatest suffering you're going to run into this week you should count yourself very, very lucky.

I know, that's why I bought a 1080p LED screen and not a 2560 x 1440, my wallet had a heart attack.
I wish I could get a pair of 30" screens. But I can't even afford one.

That was already known to me, I just want to know who thought it would be a good idea to discontinue my monitor size.
