So I've always been confused about why we don't learn a lot from non-western nations and their role in WWII. For instance I was never thaught about the heroic role Poland and it's underground army (it made every other resistance look punny and insignificant in comparison) played during WWII and it's aftermath. Why don't we learn about that?

Depends on where your home country is I suppose. Also, there's a LOT of stuff to learn. Pretty much every nation had it's own role in the war, to the point where it would require a whole text book just for that one nation. Schools and teachers can't possibly cover it all, so they cover the basics, with a slight bias toward their home country.

Same reason most people dont know that China was one of the allied forces and lost millions of people fighting the japanese. The same resaon barely anyone knows about the winter war between the soviets and the Finns. why no one knows about the rather impressive list of warcrimes commited by the allies.

We would rather look at the heroic role "we" played than think about the reasons why we were there in the first place or why other people were fighting.

Edit: Also the French auxilliary troops from Algeria and North Africa who were promised citienship for fighting and then just kind of ignored after the war.
