My girlfriend recently got an X-Box 360 and I want to get her a game for Christmas, but I know little to nothing about games really so I thought I'd ask some people I can trust for advice!

She has Bioshock and she likes that, but finds it a bit scary, and loves Half Life. She hates racing games!

My ideas:
Halo 3: Just because it's the most talked about game for the x-box. But she doesn't have x-box live so a no-no?
Gears of War (2!?): Same reason as Halo really!
GTA 4/Episode from Liberty City: She's played San Andreas on my PC and loved it so perhaps one of these? But which one? What is this 'episodes' buisness? Is it not a full game?
Modern Warfare 2: Except for the hefty price tag!

Any ideas folks? =]

Oh, a shooting game... Ummm. Buy Modern Warfare 2 (but without Live, there's not too much point).
So, buy GTA IV, I guess.

I'd recommend GTA, really. The "episodes" pack is essentially two extra games set in the same world as GTA. They're really quite good. You can buy them separately at a low price on the same disc, or you can download them from Xbox Live.

There's Prototype, Saints Row 2 and Fable 2. The reason I'm naming these is because my sister and her friends seemed to like these.

If she finds Bioshock scary then Left 4 Dead 2 may be out of the question. However, I've always found the line between high violence and minor horror that Bioshock's gameplay seems to stand on a quite good mix in with the story. However Bioshock 2 has a horror rating, unlike the first game.

It's just basically 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' and 'GTA: The Lost and Damned' downloadable contents on a disc. Not quite a full game but that's why it's so cheap.

Buy her a year subscription card. If she is a shooter fan that is a must. There just isn't enough good offline shooters to justify the 60 bucks per title.

And that way you don't risk buying her a game she doesn't like ;)

if she liked bioshock, then fallout 3'll be a safe bet. But bear in mind that it's an RPG with guns, rather than a fully fledged shooter.

Fallout 3, Skate(2) is good. I also really liked Shadow Complex. That game you have to download of the Xbox Live Arcade store, but you don't need a gold account, you can just use the free account.

Also there's StreetFighter 4, Prince of Persia, Dark Sector, Mass Effet, Batman: Arkham Asylum... I could go on.

Perhaps that's why he came here to ask our help?

You know someone recently created a poll 'Would you be here if it weren't for ZP?'

...

And besides wtf does that matter? I know nothing about games but I like games, am I not allowed to be a member of this community without passing the citizenship test? Just answer the goddam question!!!

So can you think of a better place for him to ask (other than he will be forced to filter through arrogant posts like this)?

Agreed.

I'd say Fallout 3 is your best bet, I love both games for very similar reasons (The atmosphere mostly).
