Is there anyone that is really looking forward to the new xcom game?? I am living for it along with the new deus ex 3.

The first xcom enemy unknown was and still is what is good and right with a strategy game and if anyone knows a way to get it please message me 'cos i would love to get it again.

The new one is a bit dicey but its a xcom game and i'm a massive fanboy :)
Anyother die hard xcom gamers?

It's on Impulse as well, both that and Steam's work just fine on modern systems.

OT: I am not looking forward to the new game in the slightest, as it has nothing whatsoever to do with the old games, at least as far as gameplay goes.

Maybe it'll be decent, maybe it won't, but it definitely doesn't deserve any attention for using X-Com as it's name.

The old games were awesome, own them all thanks to Steam. My computer no longer accepts floppy discs so it was impossible to install them :p

On the new game all I can do is qoute SpoonyOne: "BEEETRAAAAAYAL! BEETRAYAL!".
As if the market didnt have enough fething Shooters, those asshats had to rape this IP.

I used to love the first one, I played it on the Amiga for years.

I stopped playing it only when Jagged Alliance 2 came out, which I think did turn-based combat much better, JA2 contained several improvements on X-Com's formula, but the most important one was making the traversing-the-map-looking-for-enemies parts a nail-biting real-time experience instead of a boring turn-based trudge, and switching to turn-based combat when someone caught sight of an enemy (or they caught sight of you). Ever since then, I can't play an X-Com game, the combat is fine but the searching for enemies part just gets way too boring way too fast.

I don't even want to know how much time I spent on the first two games as a kid. I loved them. But the rest of the XCOM catalog is not really what you might be expecting. So let's wait on this FPS and base it on its own merits.

And hey, if you guys like the feel of the original, try some games (that are on Steam) like UFO: Aftermath or UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold Edition. The latter is called a spiritual sequel to the original two games. It has the same look and ideas, just updated graphically and few tactical upgrades.

yeah intercepter and enforcer were god awful there was hope for alliance but that got cancelled,

the ufo trilogy were possibly the next best thing. Never played extra terestrials tho might give that a look.

I'm hoping they can atleast recreate some parts of the origonal somehow even if its in the base management, The shooty bits i'm not sure of i can only hope they don't follow the trend set out by the last few spin offs

I'm not decrying it as a travesty yet, but I'll be extremely vary of their designs. I really, REALLY hope it can be work in FPS, since I THINK some aspects might work well, but it hinges very much on teammate AI and such. Loved the first 2 games though, so I'll give it a shot.

...just don't have the difficulty on Terror From the Deep level.
