Oh, and hopefully this movie is good. Pallindromemordnillap has a point that this could easily turn into a mess of plot threads, hopefully Singer is smart enough to avoid that.
SO THAT'S WHAT THAT MUSIC WAS.

I thought they used the same composer/soundtrack for inception or something

I agree with a previous post. The movie itself looks cool, but that trailer wasn't as dynamic as I was hoping. Comparing this trailer to Thor and Cap, those two had tons more energy.

Still, I am looking forward to the film, I'm just curious if Fox even has a plan for future Marvel-related films. Sure, Fantastic Four and all, but by the time a crossover could happen, most of the actors would need to be recast (unless they choose to ignore some of their key figures).

Moreover, if they hope to match Marvel Studios, they'll need a deeper reservoir of villainy than they have currently shown.

I'm even more pissed off about Spiderman, who is sitting around in his own universe, unable to even fathom a larger continuity. I almost want Sony to make some movies based on Infamous, JUST to have some crossover potential. Of course, as crappy as Electro looks...they might not want to revisit that territory, if their next film flops.

uuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh these movies are painful, I really wish they would just die. we need a real x-men movie so badly, we need scott summers to be the bad ass he is in the comics, we need wolverine pushed to the background. I mean even if you like these shit movies compare them to the joss whedon run on astonishing x-men and they don't even come close, and Cyclops is a big reason. the thing that gets frustrating about x-men comics is the dead-not dead-dead-not dead things they keep doing, Xavier keeps dying but not really, jean grey keeps coming back but not really. and that's all the movies have been about, it's like making 5 spider man movies and making it about the clone saga. can we all agree that wolverine is not a "killer with a conscience" he's a sociopath, he's killed literally hundreds of people. he is useful, but this new idea that he somehow is more moral than the "dick" Cyclops who makes smart but unpopular decisions because he's the leader. without Cyclops, there is no x-men, they've never had a successful run of any real time when Cyclops wasn't the leader of the team. storm took over for a time but even she isn't as tactically sound as cyke. Cyclops' x-men were strong enough to defeat the dark avengers, he found a way to neutralize the sentry AND Aries. oh and his team whooped the real avengers just recently, Cyclops is such a bad ass he brought magneto and namor to heel and made them part of the team. magneto has admitted on more than one occasion to Cyclops being not just his equal but in every way his better. how do you take that character, give him 5 seconds of screen time, then just toss him away in favor of the wild animal with no interest in mutants as a whole or the dreams of Xavier or magneto and no real direction, logan has no character arc he has no story to follow he's just a sentient set of claws.

This looks very promising. As for some of the inconsistencies like the Patrick Stewart Professor X being alive, I would have to say that the older X-Men are from an alternate timeline where Trask's actions in the past spelled the end for both human and mutant kind with the rise of the Sentinels. Hope Days of Future Past lives up to the hype.

Except wasn't Professor X dead thanks to the third movie? Or are we changing things up again?

I'm not that big of a fan of the Fox X-men movies (especially the god-awful looking Wolverine flicks) but since First Class managed to catch my attention I guess that I'll give this one a shot.
I believe they are removing that from the canon. As in, it never ever happened. Which is a good thing.

OT: Looks like a lot of fun, excited to see it.
Singer says they will be explaining Xavier's resurrection in this one. Both the post-credits scene in First Class and The Wolverine have characters remembering him dying.

Well, considering Magneto's power is the manipulation of all things metal, meaning he could crush Scott's skull with the visor (unless they made them out of plastic), or just send wolverine hurtling into him like his very own throwing knife, I don't know why Magneto would ever say Cyclops is his better/equal. You're right, Eric, the guy that can shoot lasers out of his eyes (but can't control it without blinding himself)is exactly as equal to you as the guy who can read and control people's fucking minds. Comics still have pretty shitty writers in the grand scheme of things, and unlike you and MovieBob, I'm never at all disappointed when they move away from comics.

As for Logan, People like Wolverine precisely because he's simple. He's an angry guy who stabs his problems away. He doesn't have to go through an arc. I agree that makes him a less interesting character, but it certainly makes him an entertaining one (see: Die Hard, God of War, Assassin's Creed protagonists, Thor "He learns humility by not bragging after he obliterates bad people!", Hulk [Not Bruce Banner, just Hulk], and really most video game protagonists).

This is looking pretty darn good. And I have to say, First Class really renewed this film franchise. None of the original XMen movies were that good, and the cast of First Class did a great job. I'm glad they were included and are a major part of the story. As far as all the bitching goes.... they really shouldn't openly be compared to the comic at all. Most movies shouldn't. It has to be made with a wider audience in mind, and audience that doesn't have the character backgrounds that the comic fans do. Also, they call it "Days of Future Past", but it's not going to be at all like the comic.

Wasn't he confirmed to be Bolivar Trask? At least that's what I vaguely remember hearing a while back. And the suit and tie Dinklage has there doesn't exactly scream Modok at me

Ugh...time travel? Really? Very rarely is it ever done well in a sequel, and it usually just ends up screwing with the continuity of a franchise.

Not looking forward to this. If it does end up being good, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Looks pretty epic to me. Please don't fuck it up with some shitty time travel baloney. First Class was great, hopefully they can continue from that.

Although I do kind of wish we'd move on from Wolverine as the leading man. Hugh Jackman is great in the role, but he's been the main character in X1, X2, X3, Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine.

I think that may have been one of the reasons First Class felt so fresh, with the focus on Magneto and Xavier.

yeah accept god of war was incredibly shitty writing after the first one. gow3 was so terrible because kratos was such a rage beast. look I like that aspect of logan, he's fun because he can dive into the middle of an army and fight his way out. but he's a hammer, and you can only get so much blood n guts before someone with a brain has to step in and direct that hammer somewhere otherwise it's pointless. logan is a cool character when used properly. old man logan is one of the best comics I've ever read. but it also illustrates that he's really only good at one thing, survival.

Cyclops power in the comics is a lot more than what they portray in the movies. at full power he can level magneto's force fields or just knock him around like a pinball. but Cyclops mutant power isn't what makes him so awesome. it's his tactics. kinda like cap, he's not the strongest avenger but he's possibly the most important because he has a plan and can implement it. Cyclops best attribute is harvesting the right tools and talent from the x-men and from the mutant population in general. magneto can "control" the mutant brotherhood. but Cyclops can "lead" the mutant rebellion. he's George Washington. the eye lazers are just a nice add. he's not holding back his powers because they might blind him. it's because if he doesn't hold them back he can burn holes in skyscrapers. they've explained the visor originally as needed due to brain damage that blocks his control but they've revealed that he's so careful to keep it under control that he has a mental block, a personality disorder, keeping him from controlling his powers. the few times he's gained complete control over his optic blasts he's defeated omega level mutants with ease. but the leadership thing, that's what magneto sees in him. magneto is working with Cyclops right now in the comics because he sees that Cyclops can actually succeed where he never could. Cyclops is the most important mutant because everything he does carries that banner of peaceful mutant/non mutant coexistence. and that's what the x-men are supposed to be about, showing people who hate and fear them that mutants are good and deserve to live. the fact that the movies more or less ignore the interactions between mutants and normal humans is laughable. it's always mutants fighting mutants. it's all about wolverine and the divide between magneto and prof x. both of which have been background characters in the comics for years. Xavier hasn't had anything to do with the x-men for something like 10 years. it's been Cyclops holding everything together this whole time.

sometimes moving away from comics is a good thing. the mandarin in iron man 3 was a GREAT thing. he was a silly character who needed the treatment he got. but if your just going to change stuff willy nilly for no good reason why bother adapting something. go make a die hard where jon mcclain is granted a healing factor and indestructible bones using unobtainium. but if your going to use the x-men, then use the fucking x-men. it's like making a movie out of halo and setting it in medieval England from the viewpoint of cortana. it kinda misses the point completely

The problem being First Class already did that:

In First Class we see Xavier is crippled in his youth, and he and Erik part ways at that moment. In The Last Stand, we see an Xavier, older[b/] than the events of First Class, walking ie NOT CRIPPLED, as he and an older than the events of First Class, Magneto meet Jean Grey for the first time. According to the events of First Class, Xavier was crippled and had parted ways with Erik long before this could have happened.

- First Class also depicts Moria as a CIA agent. Last Stand depicts her as some kind of physician.
- Origins: Wolverine shows an uncrippled Xavier rescuing a much younger White Queen (among others) from Stryker. First Class shows that Xavier's first meeting with White Queen ends with him being crippled, and she's close to his age, not significantly younger.
- Hank McCoy can be seen on a TV screen briefly in X2. He looks "normal," not a blue, hairy, beast

First Class retcons major events in The Last Stand and Origins, as well as a minor one in X2. The Wolverine comes out after first class, yet follows up the events of The Last Stand
Logan killing Jean
. How the hell does The Wolverine come out after first class, but is hinged upon the events of a movie that First Class effectively retconned out of existence?

And all of this is BEFORE they introduce the time travel wobbly goop. Look at it like this:
- The events of First Class take place (thus retconning the events of The Last Stand, The Wolverine (due to it being contingent of the events of The Last Stand), and Origins: Wolverine)
- The events of The Wolverine (which should not exists for the aforementioned reasons) lead to Wolverine being sent back in time to after the events of First Class in order to change the future. The Future in which he shouldn't exist because First Class already retconned it out of existence.

In the trailer Charles asks Logan to be patient with the past version of himself meaning that the past version of himself exists in the same timeline as this version of Charles. A Charles who cannot exists because the events affecting the past version of himself contradict his current existence. This is before we get into time travel gobble dee goop!

EDIT: Makes a guy not wanna get invested in a franchise since they'll just shit all over it on a whim

Ditto on Adagio, it irritates me that composers apparently can't be arsed to write something new for trailers. Then again I do love hearing it plus there's always the chance it will lead to more people watching Sunshine so I guess it's not all bad.

Music aside this trailer looks epic, feeling fairly hyped right now! Then again X Men 3's trailer was good too and we know how that turned out, hopefully this won't end up anything like that.

Also to the people asking about Xavier's death connecting to the new film watch X3's post credit sequence again (the bit with Moira). We don't see it in the film but the comatose patient she's looking after is X's (conveniently) identical twin according to the commentary leaving them an out for future sequels.

I know you can't judged everything about a film by a trailer alone, but this is already looking like another "X-Men" movie where most of the characters are just ancillary attachments to Wolverine. He's the star, yet again. He's the one they need, the one who is being sent back to change everything, ect...

Can they just stop? I get that Wolverine is popular and I even get why Wolverine is popular, but cripes. Almost every single X-Men movie so far has been the Wolverine show and they've almost all sucked. Whats the point of these ensemble casts if the only ones who ultimately matter are Wolverine and whatever big baddie of the week is around? Give another character a shot at being the star.

They did. It was called "First Class" and for all intents and purposes, it worked quite well. The films have shown that they can make an X-Men movie work without Wolverine, but they can't make a Wolverine movie work without the X-Men. I was excited to see where First Class' story went next. I think the studio was surprised at the reception and thought "If First Class worked, then First Class + Wolverine should uber work," completely missing the point of why First Class worked to start with.

Finally, someone who gets it! The way Cyclops was portrayed in the movies was nothing short of insulting. The guy IS the leader of the X-men for a reason. Yeah he's not the most charismatic, but he's powerful, a great leader and tactician and he also has heart. As you said, he's the X-men Captain America.

This movie looks like it is the Wolverine show with a few X-men thrown in for fan service. I don't know how many times in the trailer Professor X said to Logan "YOU must blah blah blah". Sorry other X-men, but if something happens to Wolverine you all ain't worth shit. God, give me strength.
