X-Men: First Class Shows Off Its Cast in New Meet-and-Greet Trailers

Like all the best comic book movies, you don't need to have read a lot of comics to know who's who in X-Men: First Class.

[mtv=649230]

If you're a fan of the X-Men comics, you almost certainly know the names Beast, Havok, and Banshee, but if you're not such a big comic book reader, you're probably in the dark about who everyone is. Have no fear though, as Fox has released three short X-Men: First Class trailers to get you up to speed.

Each trailer focuses on a different character, letting you put a face and a mutant power to the name. While there's some obviously some deviation from the comics - the comic book version of Banshee, for example, is closer to Professor X's age than he is the other X-Men - but on the whole, it seems fairly faithful. The movie even includes things the filmmakers could have left out, like Havok getting his special suit that helps his contain and direct his powers, or Beast's efforts to "cure" himself.

The trailers themselves are very well done, giving just the right amount of information so that the layperson knows what's going on without overloading them with knowledge. James McAvoy also seems to be putting in a really great performance as Professor X, which is no mean feat when you consider he's following in Patrick Stewart's footsteps. The only concern is that the movie might be a little exposition-heavy, especially as very few of the characters have appeared in previous X-Men movies. Of course, it's impossible to tell from three minutes of footage what the shape of the overall movie is going to be.

X-Men: First Class comes out on June 3rd.

Last I checked, First Class referred to the original team of Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Ice Man, Beast, and Angel.

Why do you do this to us Fox? WHY?!

You know, when I first started hearing about this film, it sounded like a load of horse manure. Another prequel, too many characters, most of them not very well known. But when the trailers started coming, they actually looked pretty decent. It may not be better than X2, but it seems like it's worth watching at least.

I might have missed a few things since I last checked up on this, and I don't want to sound like the kind of prick that complains about the little things like 'the rings in sonic are too shiny' or whatever...

But Doesn't Havok shoot lasers from his hands... not.. rings...?

It looks pretty well done. It might just be worth watching. Also, why do I recognize the guy playing Havok? He just looks familiar.

I think it looks pretty darn good. I don't know all the X-Men lore, but I don't mind movies standing on their own to some extent. You have the bring in more than the comic book enthusiasts to make money. The acting looks good. I am excited for this summer!

So Cyclops shoots a laser out of his pecks now? And Beast is a Wer-Wolf? Christ...

Looks decent enough, but maybe I'm just a little tired of the X-Men franchise...and superhero movies in general really.

That was Havok, not Cyclops.

Looks pretty good, I hope Jean Grey is in it.

Well that's one less thing to worry about. Gambit in there?

Maybe it was intentional, but the Banshee kid was incredibly awkward. The girl in the Beast-segment too.

I like that they're showing the evolution of Beast from being more human looking like in the first comics to when he became the big blue furball we all know and love.

You know, I was ready to throw this in the garbage bin... but those trailers make it look pretty good. Huuum. Much better than Wolverine. Honestly I think we are all pretty tired of him. Time for new powers hooray!

I am loving the new Banshee and Havok, even from the trailer they seem to have a certain amount of depth to them, such as Havoks fear of his power meaning he voluntarily contains himself.

Looking forward to it.
