this is not to be confued with racism on XLB

I got this link from a friend like an hour ago to a youtube clip where a halo player was using "Jesus Died LOL" as his gamer tag and got tons of hateful comments and strange Pms. I know that this was a rather "offensive" gamer tag to whoever believes that Jesus is the messiah or something like that but people with gamer tags with content that is even close to gay, homo, christ, Jesus and things alike are getting jumped and bullied to hell everyone with a headset.
So i questioned myself:
Is it the integrity of being online, unknown to all the spectators that makes those kids insult their fellow gamers or is it the courage you relieve from being in a party playing with your friends that almost forces you to drop these unmotivated hate bomb?
Do you need to have an unoriginal gamer tag like Jonnyboy_76 or Headcapper_81 to remain safe in this hostile environment we call the internet.
I know for sure that if i has a XBL account i would be called a "fucking metalhead" and "Tasteless cocksucker" just because of the Slipknot4 tag. When it just as well could be referring to the execution tool that has been used since the 15th century.
The internet scares me and so does large communities.
And that's where the second question comes in:
I know that the internet has a tendency to make normal people nuts but if you know that there is a chance that you might bumb into the fellow you insulted would you do it anyway?
I try to be polite when i meet other people on these forums because i know that there is a 99.9% chance that i will see his avatar accompanied by his name again on a post and there is a small chance that he will even quote me in a message. The escapist is a safe haven when it comes to the forum inhibiter's and posters ie you fellow escapists. But when we have a bigger game like halo when there is constantly 100,000 players online 24/7 in rotating matches we could see that the morale and ethics reach an all-time low.
But this might just have been me and this entire XBL thing has been a giant misconception.
