My sister did the same thing with Alan Wake.... you can get the disk resurfaced its about $10.00 (in New Zealand, so different for you I guess).

Chances are that the Xbox disc drive is fucked as well. Happened to me. Get it sent for repairs before it starts whining whenever you put a disc in it.

Two words.
It's buggered. ...Maybe.

There might be a way to save it, using warm water, soft cloth and some soap but from my experience[footnote]Same thing happened but my console RRoD'd me, proceeding take the game with it.[/footnote] this has about a 10% chance of working and you'll have to do it over and over again before it works.

Best advice I can give is go out and see if you can find it second hand or try and it new online. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :p

I work for a game retail company. Even when we get halo-ringed discs professionally resurfaced, it's still 50/50 on whether they'll work again. If the scratch penetrates too many of the game's layers, it's fracked. Try holding it up to the light. If you can see through the ring, it's penetrated too many layers to be fixed.

is it one of the new 360 Slim's? if so, put it somewhere where it can't be knocked about, the console has serious problems about being moved about while still running and Microsoft know it.

The disc drive itself should be ok (I think...), but the disc is fucked. Sorry dude, it's a dead 'un.

I have had frustating experiences with this, what I advise you to do is this.

- Replace the disk for around ?15, by Microsoft itself [ If the publisher is Microsoft ]
- Let your XBOX360 to be checked.
- If this occurs too much, say you will take legal action to be refunded.

Note, the 3rd step is a high-risk one but I was in a solid position. My Gears of War 2 disc got scratched 3 times in a month and I paid for every replacement.

I finally told them I am going to take legal action for delivering me a faulty product and letting me pay for replacing my games. In the end, they refunded everything + RE5 as a free game, which is quite shitty might I add.

Call Microsoft Tech Support. Always a free line and check your options. Don't be fed the bullshit there are things online you can check up, always prefer a dialogue.
It's not really Microsoft's fault though, you aren't supposed to move the machine while it's on, that would be like suing a hard-drive manufacturer because you hit your PC and caused the HD to crack/scratch.

The OP already said it was an accident caused by a family member, so it's not a fault. He'd be right of course if this was a consistent thing in the course of normal operating positions.
