And Help Me! (This is not a trolling/flaming/hating thread)

Earlier today, my Xbox 360 flashed 3 Red Lights at me, when I threw Modern Warfare 2 in. This is not the first time the console has done this; last time was a couple of years back. I proceeded to trouble-shoot, and run a few tests, but it runs out that the console needs to be repaired.

Upon discovering this, I revealed it to my parents. They weren't impressed. My father proceeded to tell me "we won't bother, the PS3 is much more reliable [I own one], you can play on that instead".

Now, the Xbox 360 is my console of preference, as it is for many. I love it to bits, and really don't want to stop playing it yet. Particularly seeing as I just spent 35 quid on a new game for it. This is why I'm calling on you, fellow Xbox 360 gamers. I need your help to make a case.

If you decide to contribute, I would greatly appreciate your aid in scrounging up any arguments why we should send in the 360 for repairs. Anything. They won't listen to small snippets oif information, but if I manage to compile enough evidence, they may decide to act in my favour.

Yeah, I guess with enough time, I could find enough relevant information, but here, I can get more of it, faster. So yeah, throw in any information stating why it's worth sending in the 360 for repair, and I will greatly appreciate it.

(No Flaming/Trolling/Hating on other consoles. You can provide comparisons, but no un-grounded arguments.)

Tell them you simply want to play the 360, the online makes it very worth it, and that unlike the PS3 you don't have to waste so much time isntalling crap on the HDD. YOu should show them all the awesome games you can get off the XBL Marketplace, including the XBLA.

Punch in your serial number on Xbox.com and see if the warranty is still up. Microsoft said they were going to do free repairs on RROD'd Xbox 360s.

I say it's worth the shot, and if not, there are surely some methods (if you look enough online) that can allow you to fix it on your own at home.

My warranty is still up, so hopefully yours is too.

Can't you just say how it's your console of choice?
We all have different shoes or shirts too, but our favourite is our favourite!
You can't just shrug it off!

You could make a case for online play, if you have more XBL friends then PSN friends.
You could make a case for exclusives that you really want to enjoy that are on the 360 (Mass Effect 2 is coming soon).
Or you could just bite the bullet and pay for the repair yourself. That's what I had to do when mine broke.
Sucks? Sure. But it got me a 1 year warranty and a month of free XBL.

Oh, speaking of which, how long ago did you get it repaired? All repairs come with a 1 year warranty.

It got repaired on the wrong side of a year ago, I think. Puts me n a bad position.

Also, telling my father how it's my console of preference means jack-shit to him. He sees the PS3 as a technological wonder, and prefers it himself.

Definitely explore all possible options to get it done for free, as MS has really owned up to their RROD problem and would probably do it for you.

If that fails and it comes down to repairs or a new system, there's not much you can do to convince him now other than point out that all of the games, controllers, accessories and the system itself would be completely useless at this point.

Also, there are several shops set up to repair them. You may be able to get it fixed for about $100, but if you're going to spend that money you may as well upgrade to an elite.

I mean this in a non-offensive way, but I'm assuming you're young? If so, I'd advise that if you love your 360 that much, get a job and buy another 360 yourself. If I were a parent and my kid's fav system kept packing up, and I've bought them plenty of others also, I wouldn't put the bother into getting another one/ going through the trouble of repairing it all the time. Since the age of about 13 I've been buying all my consoles with my own money, starting from my N64 and Dreamcast I bought with my paper round pennies.

You'll appreciate it more if you've bought it yourself.

No offense, but that is pretty fucking retarded. The only two things the PS3 can do that the 360 can not is play blu-ray discs and connect wireless, but that's it. Both do pretty much the exact same, so you can call him out on that. However I don't see what else you can say to convince him, he seems pretty hard headed for someone who doesn't even play the consoles.

Then again, do you buy accesories? Tell him the 360 accesories are cheaper; controllers, headsets, etc.

I'd wait til xmas and use any money you get to buy a new console. They always do good deals just after xmas cuz everyone has already bought a console beforehand as a gift.

Tell him it's only $100 for the repairs and that you'll repaint the house, detail his car, landscape the yard, reroof the house, get straight A's. You know, stuff like that. =-)
