So, my old 20 GB hard drive is entirely full, so obviously I want to get a bigger one. However,I don't want to lose all my save data when I change hard drives.

Is there a way to transfer save files between hard drives?

I've recently been doing research on the same topic, since I'm soon going to be buying either another 360 or a Nextbox to replace the 360 that red-ringed a few months ago. Assuming you don't have a USB drive with over 20 gB of space and don't wish to invest in one, the Xbox 360 transfer cable [http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Data-Transfer-Cable/dp/B003S9WJ9A/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pdT1_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2OQ6JX9ZD01OD&coliid=I21B5VXBAK8EYJ#replacementWidget] plugs one end into your old hard drive and the other into the Xbox you're transferring the data to.

Pretty much what Godzilla Guy92 said. It's worth noting that if you buy a bigger hard drive new then the transfer cable should come bundled with it(at least it did with mine when I upgraded from a 60gb to 250gb)as frankly they're a bit of a rip off to buy separately

Well if you take it into a shop that swaps the disks for you they should also be doing the data transfer.

There are also options to do this via PC but MS doesn't ever make shit by known standards so the process is long and torturous, do not recommend unless you are proficient in technical knowledge.

Just use a transfer cable, sold at any gamestop, usually like 10 or 20 dollars, buy used if they have it.

You'll need to login with your xblive email and password to finalize everything, but its really easy.

You can also use Xbox formatted flash drives to store/transfer game saves. Sandisk makes them and they have two versions, 8gig and 16gig.

I still have my original 20gig HDD on my Xbox and I'm having a ***** of a time finding a 120gig replacement (have to get refurbished ones since MS doesn't make them anymore), so I've been using flash drives to store data until I can get one.

Why not just buy some cheap 16 gig flash drives and use those? It's much cheaper than getting the xbox proprietary hard drives, and you don't have to transfer anything. You can use any flash drive on the market to do it, your xbox formats them for you. The only limitation is that the flash drive can't exceed 16 gigs.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about that. So yeah, OP, ignore what I said about using a >20 gB flash drive to transfer the data, since the limit is sixteen. The suggestion to simply use flash drives to provide supplementary storage space is likely the best way to go, unless you're bothered by not having all of your data in one location.

So if I have DLC for the same game in multiple places, is the Xbox smart enough to draw from both my existing hardrive and a flash drive?

Yes. When I play borderlands 2 I have the DLC on my HDD and my character data on the flash drive and when I use both together I have access to the DLC.

Another way to do it without buying anything:

Systematically transfer data from the old drive to Xbox's cloud storage (5 gigs at a time), then transfer all cloud data to the new drive. Repeat 4 times or until everything's been transferred.

Considering a new cable/16gig flash is about 30 dollars and youre only going to use it once, this is alot more economical way or doing it.

Computer Entertainment Exchange or CeX may have a 120 gig hard drive and cable. You should check that out. I can't remember where I got mine from now b/c it was too long ago. I upgraded from a 60 gig to the 120. I guess you could also save your stuff in the cloud network, but I'm no fan of cloud. I want to own my memory with physical hardware in my possesion thank you very much. =)
