A little over three months ago, my sister managed to drop my 360 down the stairs. Luckily, my hard drive survived, but the 360 itself was, for want of a better word, fucked.
So I replaced it, and reattached the hard drive, which works fine. My only problem is that things I downloaded before (mainly Geometry Wars and the Optional Media Update) refuse to function for me on the new 360 unless I am connected to Xbox Live. If I attempt to play GW whilst not connected, it recognises it as a trial game as opposed to the full version I purchased. The same happens with the optional media update; attempting to play a movie file streamed from my PC wjhilst not connected to Xbox Live culminates in a message telling me to download the update which I already have. However, being connected to Xbox Live solves both problems.

What I wish is to be able to use games and updates such as this whilst disconnected from Live, as it is not always an option to be connected. If anyone knows of a way to do this, it would be helpful.

Try deleting and re-downloading them. I think it is just part of Microsoft's way of preventing game sharing. Use the optional media update as a test if you're worried about deleting GW.

When you download DLC on the Xbox it is tied to your gamertag and the console you downloaded it from, I suggest you transfer your DLC to the new console using This.

I had the same problem when I got my new Harddrive.

I recovered my gamertag, but all of my saves and DLC had gone. While not able to salvage my saves due to my lack of a Transfer Kit, I was able to re-download all of my things (Various Oblivion DLC, the Halo 3 maps, Bring Down the Sky for Mass Effect, etc...) free of charge.

It's just Microsoft's way of preventing Game Sharing, I think. Just like you can't play a game installed to your Harddrive without putting the disk in first.

Thats a Harddrive he's talking about a new console, DLC when downloaded can only be used by the gamertag which purchased it and the console downloaded from. So if you downloaded Broken steel round your friends it would be tied to his console and you have to go online to use it on your console. Like you said its a way of preventing game sharing but if you transfer your licenses OP that DLC will be tied to your new console and you shoud be able to use it offline.

Somewhere on the Xbox Live site is a section where you can transfer the licenses of games you already bought to another console. This will allow you to play the games even if not connected to Live.
Hope that helps!

Cheers guys. I tried the thing that Ollie596 suggested and it worked perfectly. Anyone on the Escapist who has this problem in the future should do that.

Thanks! be wary that you can only do this once a year so be careful about your little sister breaking it :p
