XBOX 360 "Jasper" Elites?

I know that plenty of Arcade and Pro XBOX 360 units in the "Jasper" chipset have been spotted in the wild (and indeed, I have seen some myself), but I'm having trouble finding an Elite system running 12.1 amps.

I have been searching for days (and I've hit every Best Buy, Target, and Toys 'R Us within a 30 mile radius) and I have yet to find a Japser Elite.

What's the deal?

I've been hunting everywhere for more information. Is it just because Arcades and Pros move faster because their cheaper or have the Jasper Elites not been produced in as vast of quantities yet?

Is anyone else searching for one of these elusive Jasper Elites?

I haven't found one either but I guess stores are trying to sell off the old falcon 360s before they put out the Jasper 360s.

What exactly is the difference between a Jasper chipset and the regular chipsets?

Not all that much, they're really just the 'latest and greatest' model. Ever since the red ring crisis, Microsoft has been putting out new chipsets to try and eliminate the problem.

To the best of my knowledge, the difference between the Jaspers and the earlier Falcon units is this:
Jasper - 65nm CPU, 65nm GPU; 12.1 amps
Falcon - 65nm CPU, 90nm GPU; 14.2 amps

They supposedly run a little quieter and are less likely to overheat.

That's the likely reason.

Honestly, unless you really really want the black exterior, I'd just go for the Pro at this point - the 60gb drive is a nice amount, and you'll get the HDMI and same pack-ins. I have the 120gb drive on mine, and though the 20gb was too small that much space is just extraneous unless you're actively trying to fill it.

Is there any way I could check wether my XBox 360 is Jasper or Falcon? Just curious.

At this point, it's kind of the principle of the the thing. Also, the Elite comes with the HDMI cables packed in and the Pro does not (at least, last I checked). It's not as if I couldn't just pick it up separately, but it's nice having it all in one box. I'm going to be stubborn about this. *laughs*

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Falcon chipset itself a great deterrent to the Xbox 360's overheating problems?
Quite true. The Jasper just takes it a step further... and being that I haven't bought a 360 yet, I figured I might as well wait and get the latest version.

There sure is. The easiest way is to just flip the console around and look at the amperage. To the left of the barcode there should be a series of numbers, in the middle of which is the amerpage rating. If it says 12.1A you've got a Jasper, if it says 14.2A you've got a Falcon (or possibly an Opus). The earlier Zephyr/Xenon chipsets are 16.5.

Good point. Though, I suppose, there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between the Jasper and Falcon chipset wattage... however, you probably have more patience than I do.

I've waited three years already (due primarily to financial circumstances) and now I'm just sitting on a wad of cash... lying in wait. ;P

What you're going to have to do is peek in the little barcode window. You might need to pick at the cardboard a bit to reveal the number. As I said before, next to the barcode there is a number that says 12,1A and that would be a Jasper (14.2 is Falcon/Opus and 16.5 is Xenon/Zephyr).

There's a visual of exactly what you're looking for here [http://giftguide.toptenreviews.com/?p=2721].

Happy hunting! :3

Any idea as to whether they'd be shipping out some "Jasper" chipped models for people who are, *ahem*, being 'forced to trade out their 360's for a different unit'.

...f'ing RROD.

It would certainly behove them to do so, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Ah well. Got my first RROD about a week ago, was really hoping that I might have gotten back a system that would have no RROD chance...although that is foolish to want I suppose. The whole RROD was from a design flaw from what I understand, something that couldn't really be completely prevented unless they redesigned the whole system.

This is an incredibly sound idea as many of the inital Elite 360 s did indeed have the older chipset whic his much more likely to break down, *gulp* :(

they've also moved the internalls about abit!, like the GPU doesn't sit next to the PSU anymore, what that means is the older models had a fan that blew hot air into the heatsink of a major component.
